SALARY SCHEDULE TO ADD THE CLASSIFICATION OF STREET
LIGHT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN; AMENDING THE
INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OF ELECTRICAL WORKERS
(IBEW) SALARY SCHEDULE TO REMOVE THE STREETLIGHT
TECHNICIAN; UPGRADING TWO MAINTENANCE WORKER II
POSITIONS TO STREETLIGHT TECHNICIANS, EFFECTIVE MARCH
12, 2022
WHEREAS, in order to ensure that the City has a workforce that is appropriately allocated, classified and compensated; and
WHEREAS, the City and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) met and conferred in good faith and reached agreement on December 12, 2018 to transfer the maintenance of streetlights from Alameda Municipal Power to the Public Works Department and remove the classification of Street Light Maintenance Technician from the IBEW bargaining unit; and
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has now assumed full responsibility of streetlight maintenance and requires Street Light Maintenance Technicians to maintain such infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the primary bargaining unit representing Public Works Department maintenance staff is the Alameda City Employees Association; and
WHEREAS, in order to provide highly complex streetlight maintenance, it is recommended to reclassify two Maintenance Worker II positions in Public Works to Street Light Maintenance Technicians.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that the salary schedule amendment and workforce changes as outlined below are so modified, resulting in an overall upgrade of two positions to the City’s total position allocation for the Mid-Year 2021-2022 budget.

Delete the Street Light Maintenance Technician classification from the IBEW Salary Schedule and add to the ACEA Salary Schedule at the salary listed below
Upgrade two Maintenance Worker II positions to Streetlight Technicians
