Dear Council Members,
I recently watched a news report on Blackrock
, a large real estate investment group, that is
buying up massive amounts of single-family homes across the country to then rent out. I don't want them to gain a footing in Alameda where they will undermine the sense of community by squeezing money out of people for the benefit of far-off investors.

They are outbidding families who would live in the homes in an already tough housing market. They have a record of only keeping the bare minimum of upkeep while frequently raising the rent. Even the most upstanding person who finds themselves living in such a condition will become increasingly apathetic towards maintaining their house and community - I can't blame them for that.

I am not addressing local people renting out a few houses. I am specifically talking about companies with large reserves of money to dominate housing markets across the country.

If it is possible, I ask for you to prevent these massive corporations from entering Alameda.

Yours Truly,
Seamus Leahy
