Whereas, during this month -long observance celebrating and honoring LGBTQ + change makers, we also recognize two historically significant October dates: the first March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights on October 14, 1979, and the first National Coming Out Day on October 11, 1988; and

Whereas, by highlighting the extraordinary contributions of the LGBTQ+ community throughout American histo ry, and internationally, LGBTQ + History Month sends an important message to our nation’s educators, community leaders, and youth; and

Whereas, LGBTQ+ History Month is a call to action for communities to stand united against prejudice, bigotry, intoleran ce, hate, and discrimination; and fight for equality, progress, and civil rights, including marriage equality; and to support all individuals and families in their ongoing pursuit of human rights; and

Whereas, October 2022 also marks Alameda’s inaugural Alameda Pride celebration, featuring events and activities for all ages, including a Pride Fun Run/Walk, Pride in the Park, and the Alameda Pride Block Party this Saturday, October 8, 2022 at Chochenyo Park.
