Subject: Upcoming Community Meeting on Assembly Bill 481 Equipment
Good afternoon CM Ott,
One of the requirements for Assembly Bill 481 (Militarized Equipment) states, “ Within 30 days
of submitting and publicly releasing an annual military equipment report pursuant to this section, the law enforcement agency shall hold at least one well-publicized and conveniently located community engagement meeting, at which the general public may discuss and ask questions regarding the annual military equipment report and the law enforcement agency’s funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment.”
Although this meeting could occur after the April 4
th City Council meeting, APD thought it
would be best to hold the meeting prior to the meeting. Last week, Sarah Henry published an advertisement in The Sun that APD was holding this community meeting. Additionally, we advertised on the City’s website
AB 481 Community Meeting (alamedaca.gov). The meeting will be held on March 30th, from 5-6 PM at the Alameda Police Department. We are seeing most other cities are taking a similar approach.
