Proclamation

Whereas, on this 60th anniversary of Older Americans Month, we honor our country’s older adults, whose lifetimes of hard work, devotion to family, and commitment to community have laid the foundation for who we are today; and

Whereas, Alameda’s older residents are the pillars of our community and their diverse life experiences and valuable contributions are invaluable to our past, present, and future; and

Whereas, this year’s theme, Aging Unbound, offers an opportunity to explore diverse aging experiences and discuss how communities can combat stereotypes and lift up the wide-ranging opportunities that Alamedans of all races, ethnicities, cultures, genders, and sexual orientations enjoy from age 60 to well over age 100; and

Whereas, Alameda’s Mastick Senior Center is committed to strengthening our community by connecting with and supporting older adults, their families , and their caregivers, and promoting how we all benefit when older adults remain engaged, independent, and included; and

Whereas, we honor older Alamedans who have contributed decades of knowledge, skills, and wisdom to make our town what it is today, and commit to building a vibrant, equitable future for Alamedans of all ages and abilities.

Now, therefore be it resolved , that I, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim May 2023 to be

Older Americans Month

in the City of Alameda and urge every resident to take time during this month to recognize older adults and those who serve them as essential and valuable members of our community.
