CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO.
AMEND THE FISCAL YEA R 2023-24 GENERAL FUND BUDGET TO
APPROPRIATE $200,000 FROM GENERAL FUND RESIDUAL FUND
BALANCE TO ESTABLISH A COMMUNITY AND ECONOM IC
BENEFIT SPECIAL EVEN TS GRANT PROGRAM TO SUPPORT
EVENTS THAT BRING ECONOMIC, CULTURAL A ND/OR
COMMUNITY BENEFITS TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
WHEREAS, special events have historically played a vital role in the City of Alameda’s community and economy; and
WHEREAS, special events have served as important traditions for residen ts, attracted new visitors and tourism dollars, rais ed the regional profile of the city, and generated funding for local nonprofits; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has historically provided informal subsidies to certain special events, including waived fees, free materials and services, and technical assistance; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to provide assistance in a more formal, transparent and equitable manner; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 Economic Development Strategic Plan directed staff to improve the City’s special event permitting processes and attract more special events to market the City; and
WHEREAS, staff proposes to establish a Community and Economic Benefit Special Events Grant Program to support high profile events that bring economic, cultural and/or community benefits to the City, and to assist with fees, services and materials the City has previously subsidized
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda that the proposed amendment to the Fiscal Year 2023-24 General Fund Budget to appropriate $200,000 from the General Fund Residual fund balance to establish a Community and Economic Benefit Special Events Grant Program is approved.
