From: Ashley Gregory
To: Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft; Malia Vella; City Clerk; Trish Spencer; Tony Daysog; Tracy Jensen Subject: [EXTERNAL] Calling for a Ceasefire Resolution
Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 3:13:04 PM
Dear Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft, Vice Mayor Daysog, Councilmember Vella, Councilmember Jensen, and Councilmember Herrera Spencer, I urge you to join other Bay Area cities by introducing and passing a ceasefire resolution in Alameda.

This is a dire moment, a time for us to take every action within our means to denounce the atrocities taking place against the innocent people of Palestine. These crimes against humanity are happening in our name and with our tax dollars.

Let us, as a city of people who want to stand on the right side of history, stand with the people of Palestine and against apartheid and genocide.

Alameda has taken steps towards building relationships with the Lijan(Ohlone) people through renaming projects, such as Chochenyo Park, and paying the Shuumi land tax. Efforts that acknowledge indigenous sovereignty and take steps towards re- centering indigenous voices are in line with the Palestinian right to return to, and flourish, on their land.

Joining our voices in the demand for a ceasefire is the bare minimum of what our city can do.

Sincerely,
Ashley Gregory

To the Alameda City Council,
The genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of Israel with the funding and support of the United States must be put to a stop. Alameda’s Mayor Ashcraft spoke in favor of ceasefire and beyond at the November 26 vigil. I behest for the rest of the City Council to draft and pass a resolution to call for a permanent ceasefire, end military aid to Israel, and to give support and reparations to Palestine. You must convene special meetings to pass this resolution without delay. Every second without it is far too great an evil.

With hope,
Nico C

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Ceasefire now
Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 6:37:51 PM
Hello City Council,
I am a Nurse that’s lived in Alameda for over 6 years and I believe firmly that we must call for a ceasefire. The genocide happening in Palestine is inhumane and we can not stay silent while thousands of children and innocent civilians are being murdered. Please vote with your constituents and pass resolution calling for ceasefire tonight.

Sincerely,
Heather Quinlan RN

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Alameda Immediate Permanent Ceasefire Resolution Date: Tuesday, December 5, 2023 9:17:03 PM
Hi,
I’m a 10 year resident in the city Alameda and I’m urging elected officials to pass an immediate permanent ceasefire resolution.

I am deeply saddened by the recent outbreak of violence in Israel and Gaza. Both Hamas’ attacks and inhumane treatment of civilians and Israel’s indiscriminate and violent response have been appalling.

Israelis and Palestinians deserve to live in peace. We have seen over and again that this cannot be achieved through repeated cycles of bloodshed. I urge you to oppose the transfer of more weapons of war, which would only intensify this already terrible conflict. Instead, please publicly call for a permanent ceasefire, de-escalation, restraint, and respect for international law to prevent further civilian harm. We must act to protect lives—those of the hostages and the roughly one million children who live in Gaza—and seek to address the underlying drivers of this conflict, including decades of institutionalized oppression and collective punishment of Palestinians through brutal military occupation and a 16-year Gaza blockade.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter.

Sincerely,
Aleja Rambonga
