Subject: [EXTERNAL] Regarding increase in Rec & Park Fees schedule before the City Council Date: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 7:40:49 AM
Hello
I am Marianne Carter, Vice President of Alameda Vipers Basketball, Alameda-based 501.3.c non-profit based in Alameda since 2010.

I am writing about the fee increase for renting Alameda Point Gym Recreation fees
The increase in the hourly fee at Alameda Pt Gym to $75 per hour per court for tournaments is an extreme change as increase. I agree with an increase just not that much an increase. I met with Justin Long three weeks ago and I shared my concern at the big jump. I asked him to consider two things:

1. A fee that is different for non-profits putting on tournaments vs for-profit groups with non-profits being lower than $75

2. I asked that (as has been done in the past with some big increases) that it be phased over 2 years vs hitting all at once.

I also told Justin that I would be contacting the council and making the two points above. Alameda Vipers has consistently been the overall biggest user = revenue for ARPD/City of Alameda related to renting Alameda Point Gym. Alameda Vipers Club averages 200 Alameda children as players year-round. I appreciate the chance to share our request with you.

Thank you,
Marianne Carter
