On behalf of the Housing Authority of the City of Alameda, I am writing to express strong support for the City of Alameda’s Prohousing Designation Program Application to the State of California’s Housing and Community Development Department. The Prohousing Designation Program is an excellent opportunity for the City of Alameda to showcase its dedication to addressing the statewide housing crisis by committing to policies and practices that will help remove barriers to housing production and coordinating with state and local leaders across California.
The Prohousing Designation Program offers many benefits to jurisdictions that are awarded the designation, such as:
• Receiving priority processing or funding points when applying for several funding programs, such as the Affordable Housing & Sustainable Communities program (AHSC); • Eligibility for the second round of the Prohousing Incentive Program , a $9.5 million state investment from the Building Homes and Jobs Trust Fund.
The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda is the largest multifamily operator of affordable housing in the City and supports 3,000 low- income households every year with housing choice vouchers. Our current and future residents will benefit greatly from the City’s long-term commitment to accelerate housing production and the advantages provided by a Prohousing Designation.
