Dear City Clerk and Alameda City Council members,
My husband Ron Limoges and I have lived in an apartment in Alameda for 13 years. I am a lifelong gardener and we are both founding Board members of Alameda Backyard Growers (ABG). Ron chaired and I served on the longtime ARPD/ABG Community Garden Committee because for years people have asked us and ABG -- when we will have a community garden in Alameda. Such a garden is not a luxury. For many of us and our neighbors having a place to grow our own food is becoming a necessity. A community garden at Jean Sweeney Open Space Park, where people can learn about gardening, grow their own food and share some of what they have grown will be a huge asset and benefit to our entire Island community.
I care deeply about creating this Community Garden in Alameda. I ask you to please make sure that a Community Garden remains part of the JSOSP Aquatic Center project.
Thank you. Alison Limoges
