Proclamation
Whereas, September is recognized nationally as Emergency Preparedness Month, a time to empower Alameda residents to take action and build a more resilient community by preparing homes and businesses for any type of emergency, including natural, technological, and human-caused; and
Whereas, through its Disaster Preparedness Office, the City of Alameda partners with federal, state, local, tribal, territorial, private, nonprofit, and community organizations to educate Alamedans about local hazards and natural disasters and how to prepare for them; and
Whereas, disasters can strike unexpectedly, which means that planning ahead is crucial to ensuring the safety and well-being of our families, businesses, and neighborhoods; and
Whereas, the City of Alameda is committed to inclusive emergency preparedness and providing all residents with access to the resources and information needed to help prepare for and respond to disasters; and
Whereas, by continuing to work together with community members, the City can improve survival rates and recovery efforts after a disaster.
Now, therefore, be it resolved, that I, Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft, Mayor of the City of Alameda, do hereby proclaim September as
Emergency Preparedness Month
in the City of Alameda, and encourage community members to prepare for emergencies before they occur by visiting the FEMA website at ready.gov for essential preparedness tips and information, and to sign up for CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training by visiting alamedacert.org or contacting the CERT office at 510-337-2129 or [email protected].
