Honorable Mayor and City Council Members,
I am writing to formally request that the City of Alameda sponsor or co-host the Alameda Native History Project's upcoming culinary series, featuring traditional and contemporary Native American dishes made with acorns, as an Official City Event. We believe that this event aligns with the City's values of cultural diversity and community engagement, and we are excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the City to bring this event to life.
As a community-based organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Native American heritage in Alameda, we are committed to building a positive and collaborative relationship with the City and its departments. We believe that our event provides a unique opportunity for the City to engage with the community, promote cross-cultural understanding, and celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Alameda.
Our First Annual Acorn Harvest is currently underway and will run through November.
We are working with community members to harvest and store acorns in the Acorn Granary at the Alameda Point Collaborative's Farm2Market. In the spring, we will host a culinary series featuring traditional and contemporary Native American dishes made with these harvested acorns.
By sponsoring or co-hosting our culinary series as an Official City Event, the City of Alameda will demonstrate its commitment to community engagement, cultural diversity, and collaboration. We believe that this partnership will not only enhance our event but also contribute to building a stronger, more inclusive community in Alameda.
We would be honored to discuss this opportunity further and explore ways that we can work together to make this event a success. Thank you for considering our request.
Best regards,

The Alameda Native History Project invites you to join us for the First Annual Acorn Harvest, a community celebration of Native American heritage and tradition. From September to October, we'll be harvesting acorns, and we invite you to join us! This harvest marks the first time in over 100 years that acorns have been harvested to make food, a significant step towards preserving and honoring the rich cultural legacy of Calfornia Indigenous People.
