RE: Item 3-B: Budget Workshop (CIP)
Dear Mayor Ezzy Ashcraft and Members of the City Council, We strongly support Staff’s transportation-related funding requests.
We encourage you to consider additional investment to address projects on our 2030 Low Stress Backbone Network, shown below, that are behind schedule relative to Active Transportation Plan (ATP) timelines and are not yet accounted for in the draft budget.
Specifically, the Neighborhood Greenways on this map that were planned to be completed this year per the ATP, but currently lack funding plans. These include Neighborhood Greenways along Third, Eighth, Ninth, Chestnut, Bayview Drive, part of Lincoln, etc. Without committed funding, it’s likely delays will extend years further. The Webster and Park commercial corridors are also on this map. They are complex, multi-year projects. Per the ATP, initial studies were to have been completed this year and next respectively. Funding for the initial studies would avoid further delay.
These projects are critical to achieving adopted City goals for street safety and mode shift, most recently reaffirmed in the Climate Action and Resiliency Plan Update. We urge you to fund them accordingly.
