Subject: [EXTERNAL] In support of Swings and Wings
Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2025 8:19:48 PM
Swings and Wings and owner Sadiya Kazi have already made such a huge positive impact on the Alameda community in the small space they currently occupy. They should be allowed to move to the large space on the base to expand their positive influence and continue to cultivate such a nurturing and accepting community.
Alameda is already a great place for families and a growing Swings and Wings is how Alameda continues to grow in the future.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] City Council (12/16) Public Comment in Support of Sadiya Kazi-Koya and Community-Serving Uses at Alameda Point
Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2025 5:26:34 PM
Good evening Mayor and Councilmembers,
Please accept the attached written public comment expressing my strong support for the City’s continued exploration and support of community-serving uses at Alameda Point, particularly family-focused, inclusive spaces led by Sadiya Kazi-Koya of Swings and Wings and Colorful Caterpillars.
Sadiya’s work has had a profound impact on my family and on many others in Alameda. I trust her leadership, expertise, and vision, and I strongly encourage the City to help make it possible for her to grow and continue serving families in our community.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Public Comment: Good evening Mayor and Councilmembers.
My name is Meg Amarasiriwardena, and I’m here to advocate for the City’s continued support of community-serving uses at Alameda Point. My championing tonight is specifically directed toward Sadiya Kazi-Koya, owner of Swings and Wings and Colorful Caterpillars.
Alameda is a city full of families and children. Leaders like Sadiya are not offering a luxury, they are providing essential infrastructure for family health and well-being. From my personal experiences with Sadiya at Swings and Wings and through her occupational therapy practice, Colorful Caterpillars, I trust her expertise, her vision, and her leadership, and I strongly believe the City should help make it possible for her to grow that vision so she can continue reaching and supporting more families.
My family has relied on Sadiya’s work for many years. We were first introduced to Swings and Wings while at Neptune Nature School, during times when outdoor play and learning weren’t possible because of bad air quality or severe weather. Her facilities became a true refuge, providing safe, thoughtful, and developmentally rich spaces.
Furthermore, Sadiya has had a profound impact on my life as a parent. We sought out her occupational therapy services where she fundamentally changed how I understand my children and how I experience parenting. It’s hard to overstate the metamorphosis we went through because of her.
Please continue to support and prioritize Sadiya and leaders like her. Her vision and leadership represent the very best of what we say we value as a community: a woman- owned small business, inclusive accessible programming and spaces that meet families and children where they are and help them grow.
Thank you.
Warm regards,
Meg Amarasiriwardena
