Hello City Council!
I strongly support moving to electric vehicles - they pollute less, drive better, need far less maintenance, and are much quieter, which encourages our local ecosystem to flourish. However, please buy electric cars made in the USA like
Ioniq or Rivian (K9 units). These cars are more reliable and hold value for a long time, as the data from Edmunds show.
As we’ve seen recently with Flock speed cameras, Tesla also takes a cavalier approach to privacy and protecting personal information.
Teslas, especially new Teslas, have now become a symbol of the Trump Administration, just like Elon Musk’s well-publicized Nazi salutes and ICE kidnappings or killings of US citizens. This is not the associations that our police officers need to do their jobs most effectively and peacefully.
Thank you,
Nija Mashruwala

Dear Alameda City Council Members,
I'm writing to urge you not to allocate public funds for Tesla vehicles.
While electric vehicles are important for reducing emissions and supporting domestic manufacturing, there are other American EV companies that offer competitive alternatives at better value. Directing municipal funds toward other domestic EV manufacturers would support broader innovation in the American automotive industry and ensure more responsible use of taxpayer money.
I urge you to consider vehicles from other American EV producers instead, and to prioritize fiscal responsibility while still advancing our sustainability goals.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hello,
I both live and work in the city of Alameda.
I am writing to request that City Council vote no on the upcoming recommendation from the City Manager to authorize the purchase of 17 Hybrid Ford Interceptors and 2 Tesla Y Police Sport Utility Vehicles (Public Works 60141581). This Consent Calendar item is listed on the agenda for 2/17/26.
I approve of City Council authorizing the replacement of 19 APD Ford Interceptors with hybrid or fully- electric vehicles, but I disapprove of purchasing any Tesla vehicles. There are other car makers, and other options for purchasing electric vehicles that do not give our city funds to an unhinged man who is listed in the Epstein files.
As individuals, we vote with our dollar. As a city, we collectively do the same. Let's make a better choice.
Thank you,

It has come to light that the city is interested in purchasing Teslas for the police department. I couldn’t think of a more mistimed, ill-guided purchase the city could make. Would you also suggest purchasing a VW in the 1940s?
The safety issues alone should have precluded this from ever advancing out of the the harebrained idea phase, but the antics of the company’s CEO make it clear that this city should not be contributing to their bottom line.
End the embarrassment and pull this item from the agenda.

Dear Councilmembers,
As a 4th generation Alamedan and a person of color I would very much appreciate our city and police forces NOT support TESLA- or any companies run by billionaires or white supremacists.
In the case of Tesla, their CEO Elon Musk, is extremely problematic. He has likely put many Alamedans out of jobs with his intentional dismantling of and layoffs at Twitter. His family has benefitted for generations from the apartheid of South Africa. Additionally, with his recent naming in the Epstein files he is also very likely a child rapist, or at the very least, associates with and likely condones the crimes against children committed by his cohort.
Please do not allow item 5-C of the February 17 meeting to pass unconsidered by the council and use our fine city’s money to fund companies that do not stand for our values.
Thank you,

Hello Councilmembers,
This morning I read in The Morning Bun (https://www.themorningbun.com/city-of-alameda-proposes-to-buy-teslas-for- police-officers/ ) that the City Manager is recommending the purchase of several new electric vehicles, including 2 Tesla Y "police sport utility vehicles", for Alameda Police Department. I understand that this proposal is scheduled for discussion at the next City Council meeting on February 17th.
I do not want to see our city tax dollars spent at a company run by Elon Musk, a white supremacist who had a direct hand in dismantling the agencies of our federal government and undermining our democracy. Until Elon Musk is no longer CEO of Tesla, I don’t think our government should spend a cent with them. I would not spend my own money with him, and I don't want to see our city do so either.
I ask that Council pull this item from the consent calendar and direct staff to research other EV options that are in moral and ethical alignment with the values of our city. I also ask that a moratorium be placed on the purchase of any goods and/or services by companies owned or run by Elon Musk by the city going forward. I wish for our city to live its values not only in words, but in deed as well.
To be clear, I have no qualms with APD receiving new vehicles for their fleet, and I trust that whatever criteria has been defined to determine when existing vehicles should be replaced is suitable. I also appreciate the focus on selecting EVs to minimize our overall consumption of non-renewables and combat climate change. But please, no Teslas.
Thank you,
Elina

Deer council members,
Just learned today that APD is looking to possibly purchase Teslas, this is a very bad idea for Alameda! Try researching Ford, as their newer cars are much better, more efficient and less expensive than the Tesla.
Do you have any foresight into how it’s going to look and feel around town with officers pulling people over in a Tesla? How long do you think it’ll be before Teslas in the APD parking lot get vandalized? Again, there are MUCH better options, with much more to offer, and without the revolting Elon Musk baggage that comes along with every single Tesla or ridiculous Cybertruck.
Please do better, please choose a better car and stay away from adding more stress and anxiety around town. Some island residents are foaming at the mouth over this idea, it really feels like a very, very bad move!

Hello Mayor Ashcraft and City Council,
I oppose the purchase of two Tesla Model Y vehicles.
It is not appropriate for the City of Alameda to spend public funds supporting a company whose leadership is actively undermining democratic institutions and public trust, especially when viable alternatives exist.
There are also serious safety concerns specific to the Model Y. In emergency situations such as fires or submersion, rear passengers must know to remove a door pocket mat and pull a concealed manual release cable to exit the vehicle. This design has already been linked to fatal outcomes and is currently under federal safety review. Purchasing these vehicles would require additional training for first responders to address risks that are unique and avoidable.
I urge staff to bring forward alternative options that meet operational needs without funding a company whose practices harm public safety, public trust, and our social fabric.
Thank you.

Hi, Alameda City Council.
I’ll lead with the positive: EVs for APD sounds great, and like a very smart & sensible choice! But Teslas?
Making this investment on behalf of the city of Alameda will land as tacit approval of: Drumpf administration policies, DOGE, ICE, and government mismanagement in general.
Also: it implies that the contents of the Epstein Files make a difference neither to you, nor to the city of Alameda, by way of the businesses you choose to support, in spite of the presence of a company’s leader therein.
I would hope that you would think this through more thoroughly before proceeding with this purchase.

It's been brought to my attention that you are planning to approve the purchase of two Teslas for the Alameda Police Department.
I strongly urge you to abandon this idea, and seek EVs that are not manufactured by a company headed by a known white supremacist and enabler of the current fascist regime. Ford, Kia, Hyundai, Cadillac, and Rivian are just a few examples of companies that make electric SUVs, and many of these are used by other police departments. There are many better options.

Hi council members,
Regarding the Feb 17 consent calendar item Public Works 60141581 (purchase of cars for police force), I object to spending money on this line item:
* Purchase of Two Tesla Y Police Sport Utility Vehicles from Unplugged Performance, Including Aftermarket Equipment, in an Amount-Not-to-Exceed $143,628.27, Including a 3% Contingency.
There are at least 2 other makes of electric vehicles customizable for domestic police forces: Ford makes pickups, F150s, and mustangs, and there are also Chevy Blazer EV PPV.
Most modern EVs support a fast charge mode, and the city is welcome to provide additional publically accessible non-tesla charging infrastructure adjacent to the library across the street by the police station, and around town as needed.
Since there are options, and Elon Musk's corrupt and abusive behavior (as relates to Tesla, encouragement of Grok AI non-consensual deepfakes and child CSAM generation, DOGE and targeted government firings without cause, and recent Epstein emails where he was excited to party with Epstein) is abhorrent.
My family and I support use of alternate vehicles, and will never support Tesla purchases (cars, charging infrastructure).

I just read a column stating that there is an item on the Feb. 17th City Council agenda regarding the purchase of 2 Tesla Model Ys for the Alameda Police Department. I checked the calendar and it is item 5- C and they are part of a larger purchase of vehicles. I do not support the City of Alameda purchasing Teslas, a company owned by Elon Musk, because of the company’s working conditions and Elon Musk’s political activism and his general destruction through his ill thought out DOGE program.
I am certain there must be other vehicles that meet the needs of APD from other manufacturers that are not owned and operated by a person with such reprehensible conduct, morals and ethics and questionable business acumen and standards.
I ask each and everyone of you to pull this item from the calendar and ask APD to source an alternative or simply purchase two additional Ford Interceptors.
