Hello City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff,
My family has been involved in the junior golf program at Corica Park since 2008, dating back to when it was known as Chuck Corica Golf Complex. Over the past 17 years, the junior golf programs there have had a profound and lasting impact on our two daughters’ golf journeys.

We have experienced these programs both before and after the changes implemented at Corica Park. During this time, the game of golf has continued to grow significantly, with especially strong increases in junior golf and women’s golf participation. We believe golf should be accessible to all people, regardless of religion, financial status, or race.

The programs that have been in place over the past several years have had a tremendously positive impact on Alameda and on growing the game of golf in an inclusive and meaningful way. Both of our daughters have worked for and volunteered with Greenway Golf, and through their firsthand experiences, they have directly seen how these programs positively impact people of all ages and backgrounds.

We sincerely hope to see these programs continue and further grow at Corica Park. Thank you for listening and for your continued support of our community.

Sincerely,
Julee Chai

Dear Council,
I am writing in support of Greenway Golf. I am a lifelong resident of Alameda, a teacher, and a parent of a child whose life was changed by Greenway golf, its leaders, head coaches, the teen coaches, and its community of young golf enthusiasts.

My son became part of Greenway four years ago, when he was a sixth grader. He had never played golf and never would have; had we not found this program. On the first day he came home he said, “I’ve found my sport.” He continued to play with Greenway, attended their summer programs, and took part in their afterschool golf programs.

This year, he made his school’s golf team.

Access to this program is critical for our island's young people. Our family would not have been able to afford this sport and keep it up without Greenway. This program builds confidence in our youth and shapes them in ways that extend far beyond the green. This program keeps the course diverse on every level by encouraging people of all types, socio-economic backgrounds, genders, and abilities to build skills in and through a sport traditionally monopolized by a wealthier less diverse group.

I am sorry to be in a time crunch and not have more time to elaborate on the ways that Greenway has changed our island for the better for our young people and community at large. Greenway is an irreplaceable and necessary program for Alameda.

Sincerely,
Miriam Lenhardt

Dear City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff,
My name is Sophia Tejeda, and I am writing to share my experience with Corica Park as a former college student-athlete.

As an international student, having access to Corica Park meant far more to me than just a place to practice. It gave me the opportunity to train with my team, continue competing in the sport I love, and ultimately contribute to reaching nationals. That experience was not only important for my athletic development, but also for my personal growth while adapting to a new country and environment.

Corica Park became a space where I felt supported, included, and able to pursue my goals. The accessibility of the course and the welcoming environment created opportunities that I would not have had otherwise. It played a meaningful role in shaping my college experience—one that I will never forget.

I respectfully ask that you continue to support the vision and efforts that keep Corica Park inclusive, and accessible to students, athletes, and the broader community. Spaces like this have a lasting impact on people’s lives.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Sophia Tejeda
Dear Members of the Alameda City Council,
I am writing to express my support for Greenway Golf Associates in relation to the ongoing

discussions

surrounding

the

management

of

Corica

As

someone

is

closely

connected

to

the

I

have

seen

firsthand

the

positive

impact

that

Greenway

had

on

this

important

I have seen the transformation of Corica Park into a high-quality, accessible golf facility.

Dear Members of the City Council,
I am writing to express my strong support for the continued community-focused initiatives and inclusive programming at Greenway Golf.

Over the past several years, Greenway Golf has evolved into much more than a traditional golf course. Through intentional effort and thoughtful leadership, it has become a welcoming, accessible space for people of all backgrounds. The introduction of community programs, events, and open access opportunities has helped transform this space into a shared asset—one that fosters connection, recreation, and a sense of belonging.

These efforts have made a meaningful impact. For many, Greenway Golf is no longer just a place for a single sport, but a hub for community life. Families, beginners, and individuals who may not have previously felt included in golf or similar environments now have a place where they feel welcome. That kind of inclusive approach is rare and worth protecting.

I understand that change can be difficult, and not everyone may agree with the direction these efforts have taken. However, expanding access to public spaces and ensuring they serve a broader cross-section of the community aligns with the values of equity, inclusion, and responsible stewardship of shared resources.

I respectfully urge the City Council to support the continuation and growth of these initiatives.

Preserving and strengthening this vision will ensure that Greenway Golf remains a vibrant, inclusive space that benefits the entire community.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Soni Obinger

Dear City Councilmembers,
My name is Ben Gucciardi and I am the founder and director of Soccer Without Borders. Soccer Without Borders provides in-school, after-school, weekend, and summer programs to underserved children across Alameda County and is a crucial resource to newcomer refugee and immigrant youth. In the last year, Soccer Without Borders served almost 2,000 children from 37 different countries of origin.

Soccer Without Borders works closely with Corica Park and the Greenway team. For five years, we hosted several events at the course and we have collaborated to run a summer camp in partnership with Corica Park. The On the Green Golf and Play Summer Camps are introducing the game of golf to youth who don’t typically have access to the sport and providing participants with a fun, healthy and positive summer experience. The Greenway Golf and Corica Park staff members are deeply committed to creating a more inclusive Alameda and greater east bay. They have been outstanding partners, and have our full support in all ways. The Greenway team is an essential part of a healthier, more inclusive East Bay.

Thank you all for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Ben Gucciardi

To whom It May Concern,
I would like to take this opportunity to speak in support of Tamara Sabella in particular and Greenway Golf/Corica Park in general. As a resident of Bay Farm Island for eighteen years, I gifted my husband and son many hours of lessons and practice rounds at the Corica Park driving range. This local, neighborhood, affordable access was invaluable to my son’s participation in the game of golf.

While my son was at high school (Bishop O’Dowd), he and many of his friends would spend frequent Sunday afternoons at the driving range to ease the burden of studying and improve their game. It was a fun bonding experience. Interestingly, one of my son’s best friends was a female golfer who is now on a full golf scholarship at the University of Arizona. Sydney Silva was the best golfer of them all and often provided all her male (athlete) friends tips and ways to improve their golf swing when they hung out at the driving range. I can’t think of a more wholesome activity for high school friends. And the best part was the levelling of the playing field, where there was a girl showing the boys how its done.

In my volunteer work, I have relied on Tamara for her sound advice and insights into the community. I am a Board member for Oakland Strokes rowing club. Our organization also has a Community Partnership initiative to provide access to under-resourced community kids. I have worked through a number of thorny problems with Tamara’s experience and thoughtful approach. She is a creative, thoughtful leader who is attentive to questions and issues. She gets right back to people personally, which in today’s world of electronic communication is not always the case. Greenway Golf has found an excellent leader for their Community Engagement programs in her.

I would like to speak strongly in support of Greenway Golf & Corica Park as a local community resource which provides affordable, accessible programming.

Please feel free to contact me further if you have any questions on the above.

Kay Worthington

Dear City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff, I am writing to share my perspective on the importance of Corica Park and the impact it has had on

my

life

and

the

broader

community.

As a coach at Corica Park, and as someone who began working there at the age of 16, I have had the

opportunity

to

directly

support

and

mentor

youth

in

our

community.

This

experience

has

been

one

of

the

most

meaningful

and

impactful

parts

of

my

life.

Corica

Park

is

not

just

a

recreational

space,

it

is

a

place

where

people

come

together

to

connect,

learn,

and

grow.

Through my work, I have seen firsthand how the park creates opportunities for young people, especially

those

who

may

not

otherwise

have

access

to

such

programs.

It

provides

a

safe,

inclusive

environment

where

youth

can

develop

skills,

build

confidence,

and

form

meaningful

relationships.

Programs

like

these

do

more

than

introduce

new

activities,

they

open

doors

to

future

opportunities

and

inspire

personal

growth.

Corica Park represents what a public space should be: accessible, community-centered, and supportive

of

development

for

people

of

all

backgrounds.

The

sense

of

belonging

and

purpose

it

fosters

is

something

that

should

be

protected

and

continued.

A program that uplifts youth, strengthens community bonds, and promotes positive growth should

be

supported

and

preserved.

I

strongly

urge

you

to

consider

the

real

and

lasting

impact

Corica

Park

has

on

individuals

like

myself

and

the

many

families

it

serves.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff,

I just wanted to take a moment to recognize how incredible the owners of Corica are and the impact

they’re

making.

What they’ve built goes far beyond a golf course, it’s a space that creates real opportunity for underserved

youth.

By

making

the

game

more

accessible,

they’re

not

only

introducing

kids

to

golf,

but

also

helping

build

confidence,

discipline,

and

a

sense

of

belonging.

That

kind

of

exposure

truly

changes

the

trajectory

of

a

young

person’s

life.

On a personal level, I’m really grateful for the support they’ve given me throughout my college golf

journey

and

my

young

professional

development.

Their

encouragement

and

belief

in

me

made

a

meaningful

difference,

and

I

know

I’m

not

the

only

one

who

has

experienced

that.

They’ve also created an environment that supports professional growth—not just for me, but for so

many

others.

It’s

rare

to

be

part

of

something

where

people

are

genuinely

invested

in

helping

you

grow

both

personally

and

professionally.

It’s inspiring to see people use their platform in such a meaningful way, and I feel really grateful to

be

connected

to

that

mission.

To: The City of Alameda City Council Members and Staff
Subject: Support for Greenway Golf
Dear Members of the Alameda City Council,
On behalf of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), I am writing to express our strong support for Corica Park and its operator Greenway Golf.

PCA is a national nonprofit committed to creating a positive, equitable, and accessible youth sports experience for all young people. Through our work with the Oakland Sport Equity Coalition, we have had the privilege of partnering closely with Corica Park and Greenway Golf.

Their contributions to our coalition—and to the broader East Bay community—have been both meaningful and consistent.

Corica Park has served as a vital community hub, generously opening its space at no cost to host coalition meetings and gatherings. This kind of in-kind support is rare and reflects a genuine commitment to community partnership. Beyond providing space, Greenway Golf has actively collaborated with PCA to host free Positive Youth Development coach trainings, equipping local coaches with tools to create supportive, inclusive environments for young athletes- golfers, and beyond!
What stands out most is their dedication to accessibility and inclusion. Corica Park is not simply a golf facility—it is a welcoming, community-centered space offering engaging programs and events that serve youth, families, and residents from across the Bay Area on an ongoing basis.

From introductory golf experiences to creative and inclusive activities, their approach helps break down traditional barriers to the sport while fostering connection, wellness, and joy.

Greenway Golf’s leadership has demonstrated what it means to steward a public asset with intention and care. Their work aligns deeply with PCA’s mission to ensure that all young people—regardless of background—have access to positive sports experiences that build character and community.

We respectfully encourage the City of Alameda to recognize and support the continued efforts of Corica Park and Greenway Golf. Their impact extends far beyond the course, strengthening the social fabric of the community and expanding access to opportunities that benefit countless young people and families.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Mayor Ashcraft and the Alameda City Council 2263 Santa Clara Avenue Alameda, CA 94501 Accountability and Fact-Checking Regarding Greenway Golf and Corica Park Dear Mayor Ashcraft and the Alameda City Council, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the city’s ongoing legal hostility toward Greenway

As

a

frequent

and

a

to

its

it

has

become

impossible

to

ignore

the

widening

gap

between

the

city’s

public

accusations

and

the

reality

on

the

ground.

The facts simply do not match the city's narrative. For years, the public has been told that the renovation

of

the

was

a

failure

of

management

or

financial

stability.

Yet,

the

North

is

open,

and

stands

as

a

testament

to

Greenway’s

To

into

outdated

fabricated

claims

of

"breach"

when

the

work

has

been

completed

is

the

definition

of

bad

faith.

It appears the city is more interested in maintaining a narrative of conflict than acknowledging a successful

partnership.

The

motivations

behind

this

continued

hostility

are

unclear;

whether

it

from

personal

bias

or

other

political

agendas,

but

using

the

City

a

bully

is

a

misuse

of

public

office.

Greenway has not only invested millions in private capital into public land, but they have also created a

space

that

serves

veterans,

youth,

and

the

environment

in

ways

few

other

municipalities

ever

have.

Instead

of

litigating

against

success

-

the

city’s

success

-

the

Council

should

be

asking

why

it

is

trying

to

the

"jewel"

of

its

own

system.

I urge you to stop the "litigation-first" approach and actually visit the facility. Talk to the community members

who

are

there

every

If

you

look

at

the

evidence

objectively,

it

is

clear

that

the

city’s

are

unsubstantiated.

It

Re: Support for Greenway Golf at Corica Park
Dear Mayor and Members of the City Council, I am writing in strong support of Greenway Golf and its continued stewardship of Corica Park.

I’ve been an Alameda resident since 1998 when my husband and I moved from San Francisco to start our family. For more than 20 years we lived next to Umesh and Avani Patel, sharing a cul-de-sac to raise our boys. In 2018 they hired my landscape design services to renovate their front yard. They reached out again two years ago on behalf of Greenway Golf to design and install the pollinator gardens surrounding the Corica fire tower. Through these projects I learned more about the Patels’ passion, vision and action-based commitment to making Corica a model eco-friendly golf course and community space for all. I believe Greenway Golf is positioned to be the best stewards of public land creating an exceptional golf experience that also supports biodiversity, wildlife, healthy soil and water and meaningful community access.

It was during my work onsite I learned more about all community programs offered at Corica Park, including free meeting space for local scouts and nonprofit groups, weekly tours for birding and wildlife advocacy groups, health and wellness programs, and summer camps that provide free meals, teach core values and introduce golf to kids who may not otherwise have access to the sport.

Having taught martial arts for 15 years through the Alameda Education Foundation afterschool enrichment program, I know first-hand how youth programs can positively change a student’s life. I also know how important public and private support is for making these opportunities possible.

When Umesh and Avani asked me to join the Greenway team as their first sustainability manager, I was inspired by the broad opportunities for expanding habitat and environmental education at Corica Park. With their support, I look forward to helping build habitat in the course’s 30-plus acres of non-playable space, improve soil and water health and add native trees and plantings to support our local birds, pollinators and wildlife.

For these reasons, it’s disappointing and discouraging to see both the City and Greenway Golf divert limited time, energy and funding on litigation rather than working together to create something truly beneficial for Alameda. I do not claim to know every detail of the history, but from my perspective, the conflict has become a distraction from the real opportunity: to support a public space that can serve golfers, children, families, environmental advocates, and the broader Alameda community.

Alameda is an amazing place to live. We’ve seen so much progress since moving here in 1998. Park and Webster street business districts are thriving with diverse restaurants and businesses, Alameda Point has become a beautiful and desirable destination with restaurants, additional ferry service to and from San Francisco and exciting plans for parks, tidal wetlands and an arts center. Corica Park is an integral part of that progress and community - offering a public space that can support recreation, environmental stewardship, youth programs, wellness, education, and connection. Rather than resisting change, my hope is that Alameda will embrace and grow thoughtfully with it.

I respectfully encourage the City Council to support Greenway Golf’s ongoing work at Corica Park and stop wasteful litigation. Corica has the potential to become a model public destination not only for excellent golf, but also for birders, pollinator and wildlife advocates, native species study, marsh restoration, environmental education, and safe spaces where children and families can flourish. Rather than continuing to fight, I urge the City and Greenway Golf to work together in good faith, use limited public and private resources wisely, and focus time, energy, and funds where they can have the greatest positive impact: improving Corica Park for the Alameda community, the environment, and future generations.

Sincerely,

Marla Lee

Dear City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff, As a business partner of Greenway Golf, I worked exclusively with operations and events at Corica

There

are

three

words

that

my

1. Intentional 2. Community Oriented 3. Investment As someone who did not come from a golf background I was surprised to learn everything the company

did

to

build

a

First,

they

intentional

Encouraging

Second,

they

To City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff,
The Importance of Dedicated Spaces for Women
Creating intentional spaces for women in golf is no longer just about diversity—it is about economic growth, community health, and social equity.

Breaking Barriers to Entry: Traditionally, golf has been perceived as an exclusive environment. By fostering a women-centric community, we lower the intimidation factor, allowing new players to develop skills in a supportive, low-pressure atmosphere.

A Platform for Wellness: Golf serves as a powerful tool for mental and physical well-being. It provides a unique "third space" outside of work and home where people can focus on personal growth, mindfulness, and physical activity.

Professional and Social Networking: Golf remains a primary vehicle for business and community leadership. Providing women with equal access to the "outdoor boardroom" ensures they are not excluded from the networking opportunities that the sport naturally facilitates.

Economic Impact: Women represent the fastest-growing demographic in the sport.

Communities that invest in women-friendly programming see increased revenue through greens fees, apparel sales, and local event participation.

Why Corica Park is Leading the Way
Located in the heart of Alameda, Corica Park has become a national model for how a public municipal facility can drive modern inclusivity.

Public Accessibility: Unlike private country clubs, Corica Park offers championship- quality facilities—such as the South Course and the extensive Lucius Bateman short- game area—to the general public. This ensures that the benefits of the sport are accessible to all residents of Alameda County, regardless of socioeconomic status.

A "Come as You Are" Culture: Corica Park has successfully shifted the golf narrative from "exclusionary" to "communal." Its atmosphere encourages diverse groups—including working professionals, young athletes, and community organizers —to utilize the space as a social hub.

A Hub for Community Organizing: Corica Park serves as the home base for grassroots initiatives, including women’s golf invitationals and tournaments. These events bring visitors to Alameda County, supporting local business and showcasing the county as a leader in progressive sports management.

Conclusion
Supporting the growth of women’s golf at Corica Park is an investment in the social fabric of Alameda County. By continuing to champion these initiatives, the County ensures that golf remains a vibrant, inclusive, and health-focused activity for all citizens.

Thank you,
Judy Tran

City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff
RE: Written Comments for May 5, 2026 City of Alameda, City Council Meeting

Dear Alameda Council Members and City Staff,

As a second generation Alameda resident that was raised within blocks of the Corica Golf Course, and now, as a parent of a Middle School and Elementary School student, I would like to express my enthusiastic support for Corica Golf’s community programs that so many Alameda families, such as ours have benefitted from. As an Alameda family, our engagement with Corica’s Community Programs have been consistent— Corica has meant so much to our family as a place for gathering, friendships and community-- across three generations of our family.

Our family has particularly benefited from the youth programs we have engaged with year round—from the Youth programs on Sunday mornings, Alameda Junior Golf Club with the volunteer chaperones who graciously (and patiently) mentor our youth on golf course etiquette, to the seasonal after school programs that bring students across the island together, I cannot be more grateful that this safe community space is in our backyards.

Corica as it currently is, has been so much more than a standalone entity—it has become a venue that has supported efforts of AUSD (as a venue for our 2025 Earhart fundraiser to support Elementary Science Programs), and it’s after school programs teach the importance of mentorship and volunteerism. These programs exists because Corica has welcomed all, and in doing so, they support the broader mission and values of many organizations throughout the island.

In a time where there are so many competing interests for our attention, it is with deep appreciation and gratitude that Corica exists and builds upon what is so special in our community--- strengthening our bonds to the community, uplifting our values of inclusiveness and supporting the future of a sport that has long been a part of this island’s history.

Change is inevitable, but the evolution and broadening of the programs and the physical infrastructures at Corica have been notably positive, and it is my sincere wish that we continue to build upon its foundation for future generations of golfers in Alameda and beyond.

Dear City of Alameda Officials,
I am writing to express my strong support for Greenway Golf Inc and the continued efforts to expand and enhance its presence within our community.

Greenway Golf has played a meaningful role in improving access to the game of golf for all walks of life in the Bay Area. By making the sport more approachable and inclusive, the organization has opened doors for individuals and families who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to participate. This increased accessibility has helped break down long-standing barriers associated with the sport, fostering a more diverse and welcoming environment for players of all backgrounds and skill levels.

Beyond accessibility, Greenway Golf has brought about positive and noticeable changes within the community. Their initiatives have created opportunities for youth engagement, skill development, and outdoor recreation, all of which contribute to a healthier and more connected Alameda. The organization has also helped cultivate a sense of community by bringing people together through shared experiences, events, and programs centered around the game.

These contributions extend beyond recreation, they support community well-being, encourage active lifestyles, and strengthen local connections. It is clear that Greenway Golf is not just operating a golf facility, but actively investing in the social fabric of Alameda and the Bay Area.

I encourage the City to recognize and continue supporting Greenway Golf Inc and its efforts to make golf more inclusive and community-focused. Their work reflects the values of accessibility, engagement, and positive community development that benefit all residents. As someone from Alameda who used to tell other golfers not to come and play here in the past, I can thoroughly say that Greenway Golf has brought back the welcome feel to Corica Park.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jacob Hord

From: Therese Chan, Alameda Resident
Re: Alameda v. Greenway Golf
I have been a proud resident of Alameda since 1989. I always speak with pride to my friends on how well the city is run, even recently convinced a dear friend to move here last month. As I’m guiding her through all the wonderful aspects of life here in food, bike paths, diversity, civic pride, community programs, golf, parks, to name only a few, I am reminded again why I have lived so happily in Alameda for 37 years.

I was disheartened and surprised to learn recently about litigation initiated by the City of Alameda against Greenway Golf as the lessee of Corica Park.

For the last 4 years since retirement I have taken up golf and am at Corica on a weekly basis. This beautiful green space is far more than just a golf course with a restaurant.

Although I have no children or grandchildren, one of the aspects I appreciate most about Greenway is the support of youth and young adult programs. College golf teams practice at Corica and youth programs are offered for children from families of all ages and income levels, including unhoused.

I challenge any Council Member to volunteer for just one day at lunch for the youth camp and see first hand how our
community is responding and how underserved youth are
benefiting from programs developed and implemented by
Greenway. Many local Alameda vendors and organizations
support this program in donations of food for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  Or, just come by at the aforementioned times to see families TOGETHER at the Mif Course. Mismanagement
will not be an impression.

The Mif course on weekdays after 3:00 pm and on the
weekends is full of children with their parents or Aunts like me enjoying the open space and the reasonable rate of “free for kids”.

Although I am not a parent, I have always voted YES and pay taxes on passed measures that support Alameda schools. I believe supporting youth leads to a stronger and safer
community, and the steady and oftentimes exponential
increase in Alameda’s real estate prices bears this out.

In the last few years I have seen a number of physical
improvements such as signage, the living wall, eagle
sculpture, addition of Top Tracer, the completion of the North Course, and landscaping of the practice fire house make
Corica an even more inviting green space that more people are enjoying.

I have been paired a number of times with people who are en route to OAK and want to experience the famous golf course.

In addition to the community, Greenway brings in people from outside the community who will spend time and money in
Alameda.

In closing, as a single senior living in Alameda, Corica has provided many hours of memorable times with family and
friends, and is a safe space for women and many others. My retirement would look completely different and not be as full if not for this amazing space, managed by Greenway Golf.

Respectfully,
Terry Chan

Dear City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff,
My name is Mijini Kim, and I am writing to share my strong support for Greenway Golf and the community-focused leadership of Tamara Sabella at Corica Park.

As a parent, I have witnessed the "open space" mission of Greenway Golf in action.

Because of Tamara’s dedication and Greenway’s commitment to community initiatives, my daughter has not only grown as a competitive golfer but has also given back by volunteering at the course.

The work being done at Corica Park over the last five years has successfully built a "village" where young athletes from all backgrounds feel they belong.

Tamara has worked so hard to make Corica Park a true community home, and our family is so grateful for everything she does. She is an amazing leader who works tirelessly for this community, and we feel lucky to have her in our corner.

I urge the City Council to support the continued efforts of Greenway Golf and staff members like Tamara, who work tirelessly to ensure this space remains inclusive and beneficial for the next generation of Alamedans.

Throughout my time at Corica Park, I have been continually impressed by the golf course’s

genuine

commitment

to

community

outreach.

The

youth

programs

offered

there

are,

in

many

cases,

entirely

free

of

charge

to

participating

families.

These

no-cost

programs

are

not

a

new

—

they

have

been

in

place

many

years

continue

to

The

ensuring

that

financial

learning

a

skill,

and

receiving

meaningful

mentorship.

Corica Park is also an enthusiastic and accommodating partner to high school golf programs

throughout

the

Alameda

area

and

beyond.

The

golf

course

takes

a

notably

generous

stance

toward

junior

golfers

who

participate

in

Youth

on

Course,

a

program

of

the

Northern

California

Golf

Association

(NCGA)

that

allows

young

people

to

play

golf

affordable

rate.

By

Corica

ensures

that

junior

golfers

have

a

quality

venue

to

develop

their

financial

circumstances.

Beyond the golf programs themselves, Corica Park actively reaches out to schools throughout

Alameda

to

provide

field

trips

and

outdoor

outings

for

elementary

and

middle

school

students.

These

visits

give

young

people

a

chance

to

experience

life

on

a

golf

course

—

playing

soccer

golf,

participating

in

putting

games,

and

hitting

range

balls

at

the driving range. For many of these children, it is their first exposure to golf and to the beauty

of

outdoor

recreation.

These

experiences

are

invaluable

in

encouraging

physical

activity

and

getting

kids

away

from

screens

and

into

the

fresh

air.

One of the most meaningful programs Corica Park hosts is its annual Veterans Day event,

which

pairs

junior

golfers

with

active

or

retired

military

service

members

for

a

round

of

golf.

This

program

goes

far

beyond

the

sport

itself

—

it

builds

connections

between

generations,

fosters

mutual

respect,

and

gives

young

people

the

opportunity

to

learn

from

those

who

have

served

our

country.

The

camaraderie

and

mentorship

that

emerge

from

these

pairings

leave

lasting

impressions

on

both

the

junior

golfers

and

the

veterans

who

participate.

In my professional experience as both a teacher and a coach, I have seen how rare it is for

a

facility

to

so

consistently

prioritize

community,

inclusion,

and

youth

development

the

way

Corica

Park

does.

The

management

has

City of Alameda Council Members and City Staff
We write to you as founders of ELEVATE Golf Academy and long-standing partners in youth development and community-based programming across the East Bay.

We are proud to support Greenway Golf and the leadership at Corica Park. For decades, Corica Park operated with limited community reach. Under Greenway’s stewardship, it has become a more accessible, inclusive, and community-centered public asset serving youth, families, and diverse populations across Alameda and beyond.

From our direct experience, Greenway has demonstrated a strong commitment to community partnership. They support youth programming including middle school golf, PGA Junior League access with scholarships, and initiatives that introduce the game to students who would not otherwise have access.

They have also made intentional efforts to support women in golf, as well as adaptive athletes and veterans through programs such as PGA HOPE. These efforts reflect a broader and more inclusive vision for the game.

Greenway has embraced creative, accessible programming such as short course activation and alternative formats like footgolf, promoting physical activity, mental wellness, and community engagement.

Their impact extends beyond youth programming. Corica Park now serves as a practice facility for local high schools and collegiate programs, including Cal State East Bay and the University of San Francisco, reinforcing its role as a regional hub.

Notably, Greenway prioritized community engagement from the outset, including hiring leadership focused on outreach. In decades within the golf industry, this level of intentional integration is rare. At the same time, they have preserved the traditions of the facility, continuing to host long-standing events such as the Alameda Commuters Tournament. Balancing legacy with expanded access is not easy, yet they have done so effectively.

They have also delivered on revitalizing the property, creating multiple high-quality golf experiences. Achieving this level of development within a municipality is both complex and uncommon.

The future growth of the game is being driven by youth and women, particularly women of color. Greenway’s approach aligns with this reality while expanding access and strengthening community value.

We respectfully encourage the City to recognize the positive impact Greenway Golf continues to have and to support efforts that expand access, inclusion, and community benefit at Corica Park.
