Director White,
Here are the points I wanted to bring to your attention:
Staffing
Current sworn staffing level is 70 total.
We will be adding 4 new hires in June...bringing our total to 74.
We will be adding 3 new hires in August...bringing our total to 77.
We expect 2 retirements in August...bringing our total to 75.
We expect adding 3 new hires in December...bringing our total to 78.
We expect 2 resignations in December...bringing our total to 76.
We have at least 71 candidates in the background process.
We are very selective on hiring. Even if we reject 90% of the candidates, we could end up with 7 qualified candidates.
If they are hired, they will be hired as part time employees (not police officers) to attend the police academy.
If they successfully complete the police academy and APD staffing is at 76 (barring approval to exceed), we will contact local police departments to offer them up to fill their vacancies.
