Subject: [EXTERNAL] Concerning the AI Data Center

To whom this may concern,
Instead of creating more affordable housing on the naval base, you intend to pass an act allowing a data center and nuclear firm to be built on the island. AI data centers may promise to bring in billions of dollars, but the cons far outweigh the temporary pros.
AI data centers have been documented to create extreme amounts of noise, disrupting not only the wildlife Alameda has claimed to protect, but also the daily lives of the surrounding citizens. Research shows that the people who remain in their homes within close proximity to data centers suffer from increased hospital admissions and asthma related health concerns.
Not only do AI data centers use up our scarce water resources, who will it provide jobs too? Outside of those who already work for Gigia Industries, how will the people who elected you into office — people who are either teenagers with no tech experience, or already work for other companies — turn revenue back into the city?
Alameda doesn’t have enough power to an AI data center and if you live on the island, you will feel the effects of allowing one to be built on the Point. Your children will, and maybe even your grandchildren. How could you claim to represent the people when you have made decisions time and time again to ignore our wants and opinions. First it was Wood Middle School, then Bay Farm Middle School, then it was our children’s education system, then Flock — which is a very similar problem — and now this.
How much money does it take for our city’s leaders to sell out to companies who will not feel the effects of increased pollution and health concerns that will come from your decision to implement these new facilities. Instead of opening our land up for new local businesses and HOUSING the homeless who you have moved onto the island, you debate over whether or not you should sell Alameda to the highest bidder.
Respectfully, remember you are a citizen of Alameda and that you were put in this position by YOUR neighbours.
