Subject: [EXTERNAL] Public Comment on Item 7-B support for AC Transit Lines 96 and 19 Date: Tuesday, September 15, 2026 7:22:36 PM
Dear City Council,
Apologies for the delay in submitting this public comment but I write in support of maintaining reliable AC Transit service on Lines 19 and 96. These two lines are important connections between Alameda neighborhoods, Alameda Point, Oakland, and regional transit. Line 19 currently connects Alameda Point and central Alameda with Downtown Oakland and Fruitvale BART, while Line 96 provides service between Alameda Point and Oakland, including connections toward 12th Street BART and the East Bay. This means of transit is crucial for residents to commute, and conveniently attend events on other sides of the island.

Reliable bus service is especially important for residents who do not drive, including seniors, people with disabilities, young people, and households that depend on transit for everyday trips. The City’s own transportation reporting shows the significant role that transit plays in Alameda. Dependable public transportation is essential infrastructure for Alameda. Maintaining and strengthening Lines 19 and 96 will help ensure that residents have practical, and environmentally friendly transportation choices as our city continues to grow.

Thank you for your consideration and for your continued work in Alameda.

Thank you,
Meeti Sudame
Alameda Resident
