Special Meeting
City Hall Council Chambers
January 4, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
Alturas City Council Mayor Pro-Tem Cheryl Nelson called the special meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. Councilmembers present: Paul Minchella, Samantha Wood, Cheryl Nelson and Kelly Crosby. Councilmembers absent: Brian Cox. Staff present: City Clerk Tacie Wheeler, City Treasurer Dorothy Long, Director of Public Works Warren Farnam, City Attorney Jeff Hedlund, Acting Chief of Police Marc Muller, Fire Marshal Eric Hunter, Fire Chief Jimmy Lloyd, Dispatch Whitney Vierria, Officers Cody Widby, Frankie Widby, Andrew Garcia, Cayro Landaverde, and Chris Harrison. Public attending: 16 in person, 3 on Zoom. All present joined together in the Pledge of Allegiance.
No comments were presented under Public Forum.
MOTION by Councilmember Crosby, SECONDED by Councilmember Wood to approve the agenda.
ALL AYES.
Councilmember Minchella recuses himself and leaves the room.
MOTION by Councilmember Crosby, SECONDED by Councilmember Wood to appoint and promote Acting Chief Marc Muller to the Chief of Police position. ALL AYES.
MOTION by Councilmember Wood, SECONDED by Councilmember Crosby to approve the 3-year employment contract for the Chief of Police Marc Muller effective January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2026. ALL AYES.
Councilmember Crosby adds that this contract has been reviewed by Police Commissioner Nelson and HR Dorothy Long. The contract aligns with and is very similar to the previous contracts. She then congratulates Chief Muller.
With no further business to come before City Council, MOTION by Councilmember Crosby, SECONDED by Councilmember Wood to adjourn the meeting and to return in regular session on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at 2:00 pm, City Hall. ALL AYES
