Dear American Canyon City Council,
I am writing to ask that you overturn the Planning Commission's decision to not include Condition 68 in their approval of the design permit for the Napa Valley Ruins and Gardens Fence. Without the 2-foot • shoulder that Condition 68 would have required--a locally and nationally-recognized safety standard--the path will not be as safe or comfortable for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities.

Watson Ranch is a new development that can accommodate a 2-foot shoulder, and especially given the significance of the Napa Valley Ruins and Gardens area as a vibrant town center, I want facilities that / can be proud of and that I can safely use-ones that align with minimum safety standards at the very least. This path will be used by Watson Ranch residents and other American Canyon residents who will travel on it alone and in groups to restaurants, a farmer's market, events, and potentially a BMX park, among other attractions. It will draw tourists and those traveling the River-to-Ridge Trail as well. Please ensure the path can comfortably accommodate all users and does not deter use due to lack of safety and comfort. Please require this fence to comply with safety standards along multi-use bike paths.

Thank you for your consideration.

Tam a Napa County Resident and I often walk with my dog and bike in American Canyon. I am looking forward to the completion of this trail. A bike trail with less than a 2 foot shoulder would create hazards to walkers and cyclists who would share the road. I can't think of any reason 2 feet of space would be a problem for a developer. Now is the time to ensure adequate space for the bike trail. Thanks for your consideration. Bonnie Richardson

Otherwise, sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen, if not following typical bike path standards - especially since you've now been apprised by many of the risk.

Some people who received this message don't often get email from eam why this is important Dear American Canyon City Council,
I was born, raised and live in Napa County. I have been a cyclist for 55 of my 68 years and recognize a safety concern I'm certain was simply overlooked but creates a liability for the City.

I am writing to ask that you overturn the Planning Commission's decision to not include Condition 68 in their approval of the design permit for the Napa Valley Ruins and Gardens Fence. Please require this fence to comply with nationally recognized safety standards along multi-use bike paths.

Thank you for your consideration and willingness to continue eliminating real and potential liabilities for our City of American Canyon.

Isn't it the duty of our city to employ risk management recommendations to best protect our city from litigations that arise from such decisions as to eliminate nationally recognized standards especially in a cycling rich community?

Please consider this decision with the many years of usage to come. I'm a regular user of the system in Napa, and would love nothing more than to have our very own network that I could take our kids on.

Bicycle usage is very important and it is not going away. It's only right that we support it as such.

Especially in a world where it's easier and easier to stay inside, this decision is very important.

Thank you for your consideration.
