CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim
HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
DATE: FEBRUARY 1, 2022
FROM: HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF ORDINANCE REVISING THE NAME OF THE
COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
TO HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
DEPARTMENT
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 04
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Ordinance, amend Sections .110 and .160 of Chapter 1.04 of the Anaheim Municipal Code modifying the Community and Economic Development Department name to Housing and Community Development Department.
DISCUSSION:
At the January 25, 2022 Council meeting, the City Council introduced Ordinance No. 6525 amending Section .110 of Chapter 1.04 of Title 1 of the Anaheim Municipal Code to rename the Community and Economic Development Department to the Housing and Community Development Department.
The Community and Economic Development Department was originally created to oversee a wide range of responsibilities, including workforce development, housing development, management of the housing authority, commercial corridor revitalization, underutilized retail centers, as well as business retention and attraction and overall economic development. Given the creation of a separate Economic Development Department in April 2021 to focus on economic development objectives, the Community and Economic Development Department is now reorganizing to retain its focus on housing, workforce development, and neighborhood preservation and to expand the scope of services to include homeless services.
As such, pursuant to Section 702 of the City Charter and Section 1.04.110 of the Anaheim Municipal Code, staff recommends the modification of the Community and Economic Development Department name to the Housing and Community Development Department. This action best reflects the department’s revised scope of services.
Renaming the Community and Economic Development Department February 1, 2022
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The department name change is an emphasis of functions and has no budgetary impact.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda N. Andal
Human Resources Director
