RECOMMENDATION:
That District 5 City Council Member, by direct appointment, make an appointment to the Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2024.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council in matters pertaining to the short and long range financial planning and funding of City activities, the investment of City funds invested by the City Treasurer, and the use of information technology that will assist in the accomplishment of the City's goals and objectives. The Mayor and each City Council Member directly appoint one (1) member to the board, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council. Each appointment serves a term concurrent with the term of the nominating elected official.
Rory K. Zaks was appointed to the Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission by City Council Member Stephen Faessel on January 11, 2022 to a term ending December 31, 2024. Mr. Zaks has resigned from his position and therefore appointment to complete his term is necessary.
Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was posted for at least ten business days.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of this Commission are budgeted by the department providing support.
