Acceptance of Bids for Hazardous Material Personal Protective Suits July 19, 2022
Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant funds will be used to purchase 100 HazMat suits to be distributed between the four Orange County HazMat teams: Anaheim Fire & Rescue (1), Huntington Beach Fire (1), and Orange County Fire Authority (2). As part of the State’s Office of Emergency Services, each team provides regional services to a variety of county and state agencies. This purchase will enhance each HazMat team’s ability to safely and rapidly make entry into designated hot zones with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
The PPE will allow HazMat teams to enter potentially hazardous environments to identify possible threats from hazardous waste and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high yield Explosive (CBRNE) agents. The HazMat suits will strengthen the County’s ability to respond to incidents where HazMat team members would tactically deploy as part of the Joint Hazard Assessment Team with SWAT, or as a member of a rescue task force where CBRNE agents are suspected.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Sufficient funds are available in the Police Department’s restricted Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant budget in Fiscal Year 2022/23. There is no local match requirement.
