RECOMMENDATION:
That District 2 Council Member, by direct appointment, make an appointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2022.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Parks and Recreation Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council in matters pertaining to advancement of park and recreation planning and programming. The Mayor and each City Council Member directly appoint one (1) member to the commission, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council. Each appointment serves a term concurrent with the term of the nominating elected official.
John W. Elwell was appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission by former District 2 Council Member Jordan Brandman on March 5, 2019 to a term ending December 31, 2022. Mr. Elwell has resigned from his position and therefore appointment to complete his term is necessary.
Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was posted for at least ten business days.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of this Commission are budgeted by the department providing support.
