RECOMMENDATION:
That District 5 Council Member, through the nomination and appointment process, appoint a member to the Planning Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2024.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Planning Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council relating to the physical development of the city, including exercising certain functions relating to zoning, building, land use, and related matters. Each member is directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.
David R. Heywood was first appointed to the Planning Commission on November 16, 2021 to a term ending December 31, 2024. Mr. Heywood resigned from his position and therefore appointment to complete his term is necessary.
Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was posted and has remained posted for ten working days.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of this Board are budgeted by the department providing support.
