ThesefactorsmakewhathappensinAnaheimimportantoutsidethecitybordersofAnaheim. ManyOCresidentscareaboutAnaheimandspendalotoftimeandmoneythere.
Thosewhocontributedtocreatingthisatmosphereofcorruptionneedtobeheldaccountable. Honestgovernmentisanecessity.

Themunicipalcorruptionscandalunfoldingin theCityof Anaheimpresentsnovindicationtothosein thecommunity - andontheCityCouncil - whosoundedthealarmfor solong.
However, thesordidallegationsrevealedin FBI affidavitsofferedaresetmoment - anopportunitytoearnbackthelost trustof thecommunitywithruleslimitingtheinfluenceof BigMoneyin Anaheimpolitics.
TheCityCouncilmaybethrowingawaythechance. Theproposalontonight’sagendaofferedbyCouncilmember StephenFaesselisaslapin thefacetoeveryAnaheimresidentwhocaresaboutcleangovernment.
Theoriginalordinancehadcleardisclosurerequirementsfor councilmembersreceivingmorethan $250in donations. It includedrobustrecusalrulesthatpreventcouncilmembersfromvotingonitemswheredonorshaveafinancialinterest. 1 CouncilmemberFaessel’sversioncouldhavebeenwrittenbycorporatestaffersatDisneyorAngelsBaseballTeamowner ArteMoreno. It gutstheordinanceby exemptingcontributionsfromindependentexpenditurecommitteessuchas thosecreatedandfundedby corporateinterestgroups.
TheCity’sownstaffreportconcludesthefollowing:
Finally, thereisnothingin thecurrentproposedordinancethatchangestheCity’scontributionlimits, establishesa limitedfundraisingperiod, orimpactstheCouncilMembers’ currentdebtretirementandreporting, all of whichwerepart of earlierversionsof theordinanceconsideredbyCouncil.”

Oneofourmainconcernsistheparkingissuethatwehavebeenencounteringoverthepasttwoyears.
Therearepeoplewhoparkinfrontofourhomesandleavetheircarsparkedforthreedays, if notmore - without moving. Forinstance, thereisaredtruckwithlicenseplatesfromTexas - thathasbeenparkedinfrontofourneighbors houseforovertwoweeks.
Everydaypast4pmweareunabletoleaveourhomebecausewewillnotbeabletofindparkingoncewereturn. The ownersofthosevehicleswillnotmovetheirvehicleuntilthenextday.
We’vehadaresidentfromHillStparkhissilverCamryinfrontofourhomeovertheweekendsonFridayandnotmove hisvehicleuntilMondaymorning. Thatleavesuswithlessparkinginfrontofourhomeforourvehicles.
WehaveresidentsfromGuinidaLnparktheirvehiclesinfrontofourhomesaswell.
Weownourhomeandunfortunatelyareunabletoparkinfrontofourownhome.
Weliveonthecornerof andthere’sisacurbpaintedinred. Sometimesovertheweekendcarswillparkin theredcurb.
Invariousoccasions, carshavegottenclosetocrashingintothecarsparkedontheredcurb.
Neighborshavebeganputtingoutorangeconesortheirtrashcansouttoblocktheirparking - inorderforthemtohave parkingavailablewhentheygethome.
Sometimeswegetoffworklateatnightpast11PMandwehavetodrivearoundforover10minutestolookforparking.
Thehomelesssituationisgettingworse.
Wehavehomelesspeoplewalkingaroundourneighborhoodintoxicated. Wehavesmallchildrenandit isunsafeforour childrentogooutsideandplay.
1 Ourchild’ssafetyshouldbeourmainpriorityandtheyshouldbeabletogooutsideandplayinourfrontyardwithout worryingaboutintoxicatedhomelesspeople.
