SUBJECT: AWARD OF TAXI FRANCHISES (SECOND READING)

RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Motion, takes the following actions:
1) Adopt an Ordinance awarding a taxi franchise to Cabco Yellow, Inc. dba California Yellow Cab, for 205 taxicabs for a 10 year term through March 1, 2033; and
2) Adopt an Ordinance awarding a taxi franchise to American Ground Transportation, Inc. and American Ground Transportation, LLC both entities dba 24/7 Taxi Cab, for 50 taxicabs for a 10 year term through March 1, 2033.
DISCUSSION:
On November 1, 2022, the City Council introduced the subject ordinances for American Ground Transportation, LLC and American Ground Transportation, Inc. dba 24/7 Taxicab for 50 taxicabs and Cabco Yellow, Inc. dba California Yellow Cab for 205 taxicabs. A more detailed description of the proposed ordinance is provided in the attached November 1, 2022 City Council staff report (Attachment 3). If adopted, the ordinances will become effective in 30 days. The associated taxi franchises will become effective on March 1, 2023 and will expire on March 1, 2033.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The taxi franchise fees will be collected for the duration of the franchise and have been included in the Planning and Building Department’s budget.
