Themostobviousconcernistheovercrowdingofapartmentsandsingle-familyhouses, resultinginslumconditionsindilapidatedapartmentcomplexes / tri-plexes. Thisis easilyevidencedbytheexcessivetrashproduction, withoverflowingdumpsters frequentlyobserved. TheCitycontinuestoignorethepropertymaintenanceat multifamilypropertiesintheneighborhoodaroundGuinidaLane. Forexample, oneunit thatwasdamagedbyfirecontinuestositunremediated, whileanothercomplexhas beenallowedtoconvertgarageparkingintoadditionalunits, seeminglyagainstcode.
Propertymaintenanceisalmostnon-existent, withgarbageandanimalwastealong sidewalksthroughouttheneighborhood, andpetsallowedtowanderfreelyduringthe daywhiletheirownersareatwork. Forexample, gangactivityhasbeenrampantintheareafordecadeswith seeminglylittlebeingdoneaboutit, withAVLSgraffitivisibleconsistently, individuals conductingdrugtradesinbroaddaylight, andloudcarsperformingburnoutsona weekly (ifnotdaily) basis.
Inaddition, thependingmultifamilydevelopmentsonMidwayDrivearenotdesignedto havesufficientparkingforthenumberofunitsproposed, whichwillfurtherexacerbate theparkingproblemwithinthePalmVillageneighborhood. Currently, theovercrowding oftheexistingapartmentcomplexeswithintheneighborhoodresultsinan unsupportablenumberofvehiclesperaddress (often4-6perhousehold, includingnon- operablevehicles) thatareillegallyparkedatredcurbs, inyardsordirtlots, orseveral blocksawayinfrontofotherresidences.
Finally, thelackofsufficientparksandreasonablegreenspacewithwell-established shadetreeswithinwalkingdistanceofthisneighborhood (theclosestisPearsonPark1.5 milesaway) isreallyanembarrassment. Childrenlivingintheapartmentcomplexesin theneighborhoodreallydon't haveasafeplacetogooutsideandplayunlesstheywalk totheothersideofdowntown. ThelittlepocketparkslikePaulRevereandAloeGreens inthenewPlatinumTrianglecommunitiesareniceintheory, butwithoutsufficient shadeandgreenspacetheybecomeuncomfortablyhotinthesummersun.
