RECOMMENDATION:
That District 1 Council Member, through the nomination and appointment process, appoint a member to the Cultural & Heritage Commission to complete an unexpired term, ending December 31, 2024.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. The Cultural & Heritage Commission is appointed by and acts as an advisory body to the City Council on matters concerning the arts, culture, and historic preservation and heritage.
Each member is directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.
Robert Sanchez was first appointed to the Cultural & Heritage Commission on February 16, 2021 to a term ending December 31, 2024. Mr. Sanchez has resigned from his position and therefore appointment to complete his term is necessary.
Pursuant to Section 54974 of the Government Code, the Notice of Unscheduled Vacancy was posted and has remained posted for ten working days.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of the Boards and Commissions are budgeted by the City Departments providing support and liaison.
