CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
DATE: APRIL 4, 2023
FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENT TO THE YOUTH COMMISSION (DISTRICT 2)

AND BUDGET, INVESTMENT, AND TECHNOLOGY
COMMISSION (DISTRICT 3)
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 08
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:

That the District 2 and 3 City Council Members, through the nomination and appointment process, make an appointment to the Youth Commission to serve an unexpired term ending August 31, 2023 and the Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission with a term ending December 31, 2026, respectively.

DISCUSSION:

City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community.

The Youth Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council on the needs, assessments, priorities and interests of the children and youth of Anaheim, consisting of fourteen (14) members between the ages of 14 and 21. The Mayor and each City Council Member directly nominates two (2) members to the Youth Commission. District 2 Council Member Leon is prepared to make an appointment to an unscheduled vacancy to serve a term ending August 31, 2023.

Following the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election, Mayor Ashleigh Aitken and District Council Members 2, 3, and 6 (Council Members Carlos Leon, Natalie Rubalcava, and Natalie Meeks, respectively) appointed members to several boards and commissions and continued certain appointments to be appointed at a later date. Each appointment is directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.

District 3 Council Member Rubalcava is prepared to make an appointment to the Budget, Investment, and Technology Commission (BIT) to serve a term ending December 31, 2026. BIT acts as an advisory body to the City Council in matters pertaining to the short and long range financial planning and funding of City activities, the investment of City funds invested by the City Treasurer and the use of information technology that will assist in the accomplishment of the City's goals and objectives.
