CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim
OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
DATE: APRIL 18, 2023
FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE CULTURAL AND HERITAGE
COMMISSION AND SISTER CITY COMMISSION (DISTRICT 3)
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 27
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:
That the District 3 City Council Member, through the nomination and appointment process, make appointments to the Cultural and Heritage Commission and Sister City Commission with terms ending December 31, 2026.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. Certain appointments are directly nominated by and serve a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.
Following the November 8, 2022 General Municipal Election, Mayor Ashleigh Aitken and District Council Members 2, 3, and 6 (Council Members Carlos Leon, Natalie Rubalcava, and Natalie Meeks, respectively) appointed members to several boards and commissions and continued certain appointments to be appointed at a later date.
District 3 Council Member Rubalcava is prepared to make an appointment to the Cultural and Heritage Commission and Sister City Commission with terms ending December 31, 2026.
Pursuant to Government Code Section 54972, the Local Appointments List has and remains posted.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to support the work of the Boards and Commissions are budgeted by the City Departments providing support and liaisons.
