DISCUSSION:

The City of Anaheim is a designated Local Workforce Development Area under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), receiving federal funds under the WIOA to establish, implement and maintain a local workforce development system and governance structure, including a Workforce Development Board (WDB). WIOA requires that the Anaheim City Council appoint members to the WDB based on criteria established by the Governor and the State Workforce Development Board. The eighteen (18) member WDB is comprised of business representatives and individuals from the public sector. Under WIOA the WDB is responsible for overseeing the management and performance of the workforce system and for conducting strategic planning to ensure the workforce system meets the needs of employers and job seekers. Business representatives must be nominated by a local business organization and shall include owners of businesses, chief executives or operating officers, and other business executives or employees with optimum policymaking or hiring authority. Individuals from the public sector are nominated by their respective representative agencies and are also individuals with optimum policymaking authority within the entities they represent.

The Better Business Bureau serving the Pacific Southwest nominated new business member Ms. Rhonda Miller; term ending June 30, 2025. The Orange County Labor Federation nominated new labor members Ms. Norma Lopez and Mr. Martin Lopez; terms ending June 30, 2024 and June 30, 2025, respectively.
