CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

POLICE DEPARTMENT
DATE: MAY 16, 2023
FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF RETIRED POLICE SERVICE

DOG AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 07
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council, by Motion, approve the Canine Transfer, Release, and Indemnification Agreement with Officer Mike Dohmann, in the amount of $1.00, authorizing the transfer of ownership of retired Police Service Dog “Torro,” and authorize the Interim Chief of Police to execute and implement the Agreement.

DISCUSSION:

On May 5, 2023, Police Service Dog “Torro” retired after 7 years and 4 months of loyal and exemplary service with the Anaheim Police Department. “Torro” has reached the end of his service career. The Police Department is requesting approval from the City Council to transfer ownership of “Torro” to Officer Mike Dohmann. This will allow the canine to live out the rest of his life with Officer Dohmann and his family.

The Indemnification Agreement is between Officer Dohmann and the City of Anaheim.

In consideration of the benefits derived from being allowed to acquire “Torro,” Officer Dohmann agrees to release and to indemnify the City of Anaheim.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

Approval of this agreement will have no budgetary impact.

Respectfully submitted,
Jorge Cisneros
Interim Chief of Police
