REQUESTED ACTION:
That the City Council consider passing a Resolution taking an official position opposing Measure A.
DISCUSSION:
At the Council meeting of June 27, 2023, Councilmember Meeks asked for an item to be agendized for the Council to consider and decide whether to officially oppose Measure A. A Resolution expressing such opposition is attached for the Council’s consideration.
The City Council is permitted to consider, and take action to express, the opinion of the City Council for or against a ballot measure that impacts the City, as long as it is done at an open public meeting. See, League of Women Voters v. Countywide Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee (1988) 203 Cal.App.3d 529, 560.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There is no impact to the budget.
