CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
DATE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2023
FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: LICENSE AGREEMENT BETWEEN CITY OF ANAHEIM AND

GOLF FORE LIFE SKILLS
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 08
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: YES
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council, by Motion, approve a License Agreement between the City of Anaheim and Golf Fore Life Skills, dba The First Tee of Orange County, to provide educational programs at the Dad Miller Golf Course for one five-year term, with five additional one-year terms, which may be terminated at any time by either party by giving a 60-day written notice; and authorize the Director of Community Services, or designee, on behalf of the City, to execute the Agreement and to take any and all actions as are necessary to implement and administer the Agreement.

DISCUSSION:

The First Tee of Orange County is a 501(c)3 non-profit youth development program that teaches life skills such as confidence, perseverance, and sportsmanship through the game of golf to youth ages 4 -18 years. Participants of all skill sets are invited to join the program. The goal is to provide a low-cost program to the participants with the balance of the actual costs funded through fundraising events, grants, and donations.

The City and The First Tee of Orange County first entered into an agreement in 2018 providing educational programs for youth at the Dad Miller Golf Course. The First Tee program is currently providing over 2,200 youth in the weekly camps held across Orange County. The camps are nine-weeks in length with an average of 10-12 participants per class. First Tee also works closely with after-school programs and are working on a pilot program to bring instruction into the school districts across the county during PE classes.

Dad Miller Golf Course is pleased to partner with First Tee of Orange County with the goal of bringing the game of golf into the lives of Anaheim youth while also being taught valuable life skills.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

There is no budgetary impact. All costs will be carried by The First Tee of Orange County.
