The Police Department and the Placentia-Yorba Linda and Orange Unified School Districts have determined a need to place one police school resource officer (SRO) at Esperanza High School and one at Canyon High School to respond to police-related issues unique to school campuses. The School Districts will reimburse the Police Department for 50% of the total annual cost of the SROs. The Department is requesting two (2) frozen police officer positions to be restored upon execution of the agreements, and to increase the Department’s Fiscal Year 2023/24 General Fund Expense Budget by $160,000.
The requested Police SROs for PYLUSD and OUSD are in addition to the six Police SROs previously approved by the City Council during the Fiscal Year 2023/24 budget process. The previously approved Police SROs will be for the Anaheim Union High School District.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The Police Department’s FY 2023/24 General Fund Expense Budget will be increased by $160,000.
