CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
DATE: OCTOBER 17, 2023
FROM: COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: PARKS CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS PRESENTATION ATTACHMENT (Y/N): NO ITEM # 24
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDED ACTION:

That the City Council, receive a presentation on the Community Services Department’s Capital Improvement Projects.

DISCUSSION:

At the August 15, 2023, City Council Meeting, Council Member Norma Campos Kurtz requested a presentation from the Community Services Department (Department) on the status of capital improvement projects throughout the City. As part of the citywide Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Community Services’ capital projects are reviewed and approved by the City Council annually. The CIP is a five-year fiscal and planning tool that allocates budget for capital projects to rehabilitate, improve, and/or build new public infrastructure, such as community facilities, parks, and libraries. As each project moves forward through the development process, projects are brought back before City Council for final approval and contract award.

The Fiscal Year 2023/24 adopted CIP includes projects to replace existing play structures, add new parks, and plan for new play spaces that meet the needs of our community. Each project has been designed and envisioned through a robust community input process. Capital Improvement projects are funded through grants, park in-lieu development fees, non-profit and/or public-private partnerships, and general fund dollars. The presentation will provide an overview of projects that have been recently completed, those that are currently under construction, and finally projects that are in the planning stages for future development.

IMPACT ON THE BUDGET:

There is no budgetary impact.

Respectfully submitted,
Sjany Larson-Cash
Director of Community Services
