RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Motion, nominate and appoint one Council Member to serve as Mayor Pro Tem for the 2024 calendar year, effective January 1, 2024.
DISCUSSION:
Article V, Section 504 of the City Charter mandates that “the City Council shall designate one of its members as Mayor Pro Tempore, who shall serve in such capacity at the pleasure of the City Council. The Mayor Pro Tempore shall perform the duties of the Mayor during the Mayor’s absence… ”
Pursuant to Council Policy 1.9, the City Council at a regular meeting in December shall nominate and, by majority vote, select one of its members to serve as Mayor Pro Tem effective January 1 of the following year. The Council Member selected as Mayor Pro Tem shall not serve two consecutive terms. Attached is a history of Council Members who have served in the capacity of Mayor Pro Tem since 1985.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There is no budgetary impact.
