CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

FINANCE DEPARTMENT
DATE: FEBRUARY 13, 2024
FROM: FINANCE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: RATIFY PURCHASE OF MATERIALS AND EMERGENCY

REPAIR OF ANAHEIM WEST TOWER BOOSTER PUMPS
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): NO ITEM # 07
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: YES
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council, by Motion, waive the sealed bid requirement of Council Policy

4.0 and ratify the purchase order issued to Axis General Construction and Mechanical Services, Anaheim, California, in the amount of $69,896.48, for providing materials and emergency repair services to mitigate issues with the booster pumps at Anaheim West Tower.

DISCUSSION:

On or around September 12, 2023, it was discovered that one out of the three booster pumps that provide water to the cooling towers and chillers of Anaheim West Tower was operational. The proper operation of these pumps is critical as they serve as a vital component in the cooling system that helps cool critical rooms and the data center. The rebuilding of the pumps was deemed nonviable as the units had reached their useful life expectancy and required the replacement of all three pumps and related components.

Materials include but are not limited to vertical multistage pumps, motors, variable speed drives, and related connecting materials. Purchasing verified pricing of materials to be fair and reasonable. The delay in completing the repair was in part due to manufacturing delays in the supply chain of materials to complete the pumps. Axis General kept the sole existing unit operational to support the needs of the building.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

Sufficient funds are available in the Public Works Department’s Facility Maintenance Fund FY 2023/24 budget.

Respectfully submitted, Concurred by,
Jered Rakosky Rudy Emami
Purchasing Agent Public Works Director
