Non-Destructive Testing
ULTRASONIC
In the structural steel arena, ultrasonic testing plays a vital role in weld quality. Codes such as the UBC, IBC, CBC, AWS D1.1 & D1.5 require the use of ultrasonic testing as a means to identify internal discontinuities that can be classified as nonconforming in meeting the strength design of a given welded assembly. Through the application of high frequency sound transmitted into steel, refracted sound waves provide information through trigonometric calculations that can identify the size, depth, and location of a flaw within a weld. Ultrasonic testing is an effective method in determining the disposition of the weld.
RADIOGRAPHIC
Radiography is another common method. This technology, like ultrasonic testing, provides an internal view of items under test. However, the two technologies differ greatly from one another. Rather than using sound, radiography utilizes high energy X and Gamma rays to pass through material and superimpose the varying material densities as contrasting images on film. Radiography is an excellent tool when permanent records are needed. It provides information that can be referenced by various personnel at any given time. It can be used for weld inspection, concrete inspection, and welder certification.
MAGNETIC PARTICLE
Magnetic Particle testing is used to find surface and slightly subsurface discontinuities in material. It involves the induction of a magnetic field within an item under test. Very fine iron oxide particles are applied in order to visibly alert a technician of any existing fields that can be interpreted as a defect “flux leakage.” This technology is advantageous for detecting cracks in welds and associated heat affected zones in ferrous metal.
LIQUID PENETRANT
Liquid Penetrant examination is used to detect surface breaking discontinuities in material under test. It utilizes the application of a liquid dye onto a material. Relying on a natural physical phenomenon called “capillary action,” the dye works its way into flaws that are open to the surface. After a test specimen goes through the entire liquid penetrant process, any entrapped dye is easily seen against the contrasting background provided by a developer. This method is advantageous for nonferrous material and inspecting a large area quickly. 23-2058 page 6

Site Safety Qualifications
Our field inspectors will provide field observation, sampling, documentation, and testing of all soil, concrete, reinforcing steel, shotcrete, structural masonry, shotcrete, structural steel, NDT testing, high strength bolting, fireproofing, firestopping, epoxy dowels, and wood framing, as needed, per each task order. Our staff will also include geotechnical technicians, as necessary, for all soil applications and geotechnical investigations. Our lead inspectors are handpicked for specific projects based on their experience and certifications and how well those match up to the requirements and construction elements on the project. Our seasoned inspectors carry multiple certifications for an efficient, cost effective work flow.
Each member of the team brings together decades of practical experience, knowledge of the most recent engineering methods and codes, and unparalleled expertise in various disciplines.
Training
Koury recognizes the importance of continued education of staff and employees. Continuous education empowers employees to gain new skills and lay the foundation to grow professionally. Employes are more likely to be engaged with the potential of their future when companies offer learning and development opportunities.
Every company has its own values and culture and there are many ways to make learning and development programs successful. At Koury, we believe active participation is one of the most successful methods in our industry and we offer different levels of this type of learning for our employees.
Our company uses a hands-on approach to training the department of Engineering. Our staff of professional engineers offers unique paid internships that immerse employees enrolled in engineering degrees from local colleges. Usually, these employees already have a passion for civil engineering or geology. Through the program, the employees pair up with experienced engineers to complete hands-on projects like sampling soil, classifying soil, analyzing properties, and categorizing borings.

Overview
In general, our anticipated services will ascertain project quality compliance as well as assure construction quality and longevity. During this contract we anticipate providing material testing and inspection services in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
Koury’s approach to a successful project will begin with the selection of our team of individuals and their specific responsibilities: The project manager, Michael Carrillo, the field supervisor, Manuel Baeza, and our field and laboratory personnel, this includes our certified ACI technicians, ICC soils special inspectors and field technicians.
The first key element is developing an understanding of each project and the requirements necessary for success. This usually begins with our project manager and/or other appropriate personnel meeting early with the City’s personnel and or their designated individuals to prepare formal tasks, work-plans, milestones, expectations, and requirements.
Koury’s field supervisor, Manuel Baeza, will schedule, coordinate, and facilitate daily testing and inspection activities for each project, he will be available to communicate with the City’s project managers or their inspectors. Mr. Baeza will make sure each special inspector or technician is familiar with available project plans and specifications and is properly certified for the required work.
Koury’s will establish appropriate checklists to maintain product quality and control, along with employing a process whereby all of the documentation is checked, corrected if necessary and rechecked, and all job correspondence and memoranda is routed and received by affected persons and then stored in the appropriate files.
Constant, concise, and effective communication between all parties on a project is always the most important key element to project success. Koury has learned, good direct communication can stop, avoid, or minimize problems on a project, saving our clients time, money, and possible embarrassment.
Koury’s intentions are always to provide quality, prompt service. Industry standard allows that 24 hour notice be given for all field inspection services and we are always grateful for longer notice. However, being a mature inspection service provider, we realize that mishaps occasionally occur with scheduling and/or unforeseen weather is expected and sometimes very short notice or immediate service is requested. More often than not, we are usually able to accommodate and we are more than happy to provide you with the inspector.
How to Request an Inspection
To request an inspection, please call before 2:00 pm the day prior to the inspection requirement. This will insure we can provide an inspector on the day & time you requested. Dial (909) 606-6111, and choose option 2. Dispatch hours are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
