CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
DATE: APRIL 2, 2024
FROM: FINANCE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: APPROVE AN INCREASE TO THE AGREEMENT FOR
TESTING, INSPECTION, MONITORING, AND MAINTENANCE
OF THE FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS AT THE ANAHEIM
CONVENTION CENTER
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): NO ITEM # 05
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: YES
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Motion:
1) Approve an increase of $50,000, plus a 20% contingency, to the current agreement with Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP from the amount of $421,353 to $471,353 for the current renewal period for as-needed repairs to the fire suppression system at the Anaheim Convention Center (ACC); and
2) Authorize the Purchasing Agent, or their designee, to execute documents, as necessary, related to the agreement.
DISCUSSION:
In March 2022, the City Council approved the issuance of an agreement to Johnson Controls Fire Protection LP. The agreement covers annual expenses related to testing, inspection, monitoring, and maintenance of the fire suppression system at the ACC. Staff is requesting an increase to specifically cover the cost of repairs due to unexpected issues that are not covered under the existing agreement. Approving this increase would ensure that skilled technicians promptly address repairs, mitigating additional damage to city property during emergencies. The increase of $50,000 would bring the total not-to- exceed amount for this agreement from $1,027,629.68 to $1,077,629.68 for services from March 1, 2022, through February 28, 2025.
The City’s agreement is in accordance with the terms of Sourcewell Cooperative Contract #030421-JHN. This cooperative contract expires on April 22, 2025, and contains an optional renewal for a one-year period, which if exercised, would allow the City to, potentially, extend its agreement with Johnson Controls beyond the agreement’s current expiration date of February 28, 2025.
Approve an Increase to the Master Agreement for Testing, Inspection, Monitoring, and Maintenance of the Fire Suppression System at the Anaheim Convention Center
April 2, 2024
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Sufficient funds are available in the Convention Center’s Fiscal Year 2023/24 budget.
Funding for subsequent years is subject to Council’s approval of budget appropriations.
Respectfully submitted, Concurred by,
Jered Rakosky Thomas Morton
