I needto makea commentregardingtheprotestinggoingonaroundtheLittleArabia areaonBrookhurstSt. Anaheim92804 – BECAUSEI readthattheCityof Anaheimis thinkingaboutinvestinga lot of moneyintocenteringthisareaasa “designationarea” Myfriendsfromoutof townwerevisiting & goingto DisneyLand & Knott’s BerryFarm encounteredtheprotestinggoingononBrookhurstSt. & wereappalled & somewhat frightenedby whattheysaw.- I wasabsolutelyembarrassedby thissituation. It is embarrassingenoughto seealltheseillegalunlicensedsidewalksellerswiththeir handwrittensignsthatareaneyesore – butto haveto putupwitha disruptive politicalprotestlikethis?....horrible.
ThisgreatCityof Anaheimissupposedto be “thehappiestplaceonearth” --- & a welcomecityfor touriststo ‘come & leavealltheirtroublesbehind’….notto be remindedof theterribleon-goingworldhappenings.
I wouldbetotallyagainstanyideaof enlargingthisLittleArabiaarea - & totally againstspendinganycitytaxdollarsto makeis a designationarea. Thetrafficinthis areais a messanywaywithoutit beinga “designationarea”….
I realizethatprotestingisa right – butI amappalledthatthisareaof middleeastern businesseswouldevenenterintoa politicalprotestlikethis ! As the Orange County Supervisor for the 2ndDistrict, I represent a portion of the City of Anaheim and feel a deep connection to the Arab Americans that have contributed to the vitality of this community. I fully support the installation of Little Arabia District signs within prominent locations managed by your agency.
Little Arabia serves as the cultural hub for Orange County' s Arab Americans, offering a unique blend of different Middle Eastern traditions, cultures, and cuisine. It is a prominent local destination that the City of Anaheim has now formally recognized and is in the process of supporting. I wholeheartedly endorse the City of Anaheim' s request for the Little Arabia District Sign" and believe that your support will contribute to the flourishing of a community that holds a special place in the hearts of many.
A dedicated freeway sign is a small investment with far-reaching benefits for the small businesses that make this cultural hub thrive. In addition to the economic impact, a prominent freeway sign signals an investment in the preservation of cultural herita ge and in creating a more inclusive California. I am hopeful about the positive impact this signage will have on our community.
