CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

POLICE DEPARTMENT
DATE: AUGUST 13, 2024
FROM: POLICE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF RETIRED POLICE SERVICE

DOG AND INDEMNITY AGREEMENT
ATTACHMENT: YES ITEM # 09
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:

That the City Council, by Motion, approve the Canine Transfer, Release and Agreement to Indemnify, Defend, and Hold Harmless with Sergeant Brian Bonczkiewicz, in the amount of $1.00, authorizing the transfer of ownership of retired Police Service Dog “Valor,” and authorize the Chief of Police to execute the Agreement.

DISCUSSION:

On July 31, 2024, Police Service Dog “Valor” retired after four years of loyal and exemplary service with the Anaheim Police Department. “Valor” has reached the end of his service career. The Police Department is requesting approval from the City Council to transfer ownership of “Valor” to Sergeant Brian Bonczkiewicz. This will allow the canine to live out the rest of his life with Sergeant Bonczkiewicz.

The Indemnification Agreement is between Sergeant Bonczkiewicz and the City of Anaheim. In consideration of the benefits derived from being allowed to acquire “Valor,” Sergeant Bonczkiewicz agrees to release and to indemnify the City of Anaheim.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

Approval of this agreement will have no budgetary impact.

Respectfully submitted,
Rick P. Armendariz
Chief of Police
