CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
DATE: OCTOBER 8, 2024
FROM: FINANCE DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF BID FOR ESCALATOR STEP
REPLACEMENT AT THE ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER
FROM AMTECH ELEVATOR SERVICES
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): NO ITEM # 06
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Motion:
1. Award a purchase order to Amtech Elevator Services, in the amount of $175,000, to replace 166 escalator steps at the Anaheim Convention Center (ACC); and
2. Authorize the Purchasing Agent, or their designee, to execute documents, as necessary, related to the purchase order.
DISCUSSION:
The Central Purchasing Office posted a Request for Bid #9814 on the City of Anaheim’s online bid portal. Sealed bids were received by 2:00 p.m., August 16, 2024, from the following bidders, and were publicly opened immediately thereafter.
Bidder Total Bid
Amtech Elevator Services $175,000
Cerritos, CA
Fujitec America, Inc. $184,999
Torrance, CA
Nouveau Elevator California $185,000
Walnut, CA
DISCUSSION:
The solicitation required contractors to remove 166 steps from two escalators and replace them with 166 Kone Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) black steps featuring yellow demarcation strips. Additionally, contractors were required to supply Acceptance of Bid for Escalator Step Replacement at the Anaheim Convention Center October 8, 2024
four additional OEM steps for attic stock and provide a minimum one-year warranty covering both workmanship and materials.
The escalators at the Convention Center are one of the first features visitors notice when attending major events like the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), Natural Products Expo West, and WonderCon. Replacing the steps on these well-used escalators, which connect the Hall E lobby to the main lobby, will enhance operational efficiency and restore the high-quality appearance for which the Anaheim Convention Center is known for.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Sufficient funds are available in the Convention Center’s FY 2024/25 Capital Improvement Program budget.
Respectfully submitted, Concurred by,
Kari Bouffard Thomas Morton, Executive Director
Purchasing Agent Convention, Sports and Entertainment
