RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council, by Resolution, recite the facts of the General Municipal Election held on November 5, 2024, declaring the results and such other matters as may be provided by law.
DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Article XIII of the City Charter, general municipal elections are held in the city on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each even-numbered year. The purpose of the November 5, 2024 election was for the election of three (3) Council Member seats, specifically District Nos. 1, 4, and 5, respectively.
At the closing of the nomination period, a total of seven (7) eligible candidates filed nomination papers and qualified for the vacant seats on the City Council, all for a term of four years: District No. 1, two (2) candidates; in District No. 4, two (2) candidates; and in District No. 5, three (3) candidates.
The Orange County Registrar of Voters conducted the election at the City’s request; has completed the canvass of the votes and provided the Certified Statement of the Votes Cast for the election. The following are the results of the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election:

The results show that Ryan Balius was elected as a member of the City Council from District No. 1 of the City of Anaheim for the full term of four years; Norma Campos Kurtz was elected as a member of the City Council from District No. 4 of the City of Anaheim for the full term four years; and Kristen M. Maahs was elected as a member of the City Council from District No. 5 of the City of Anaheim for the full term of four years.
Section 10262(b) of the California Elections Code requires the City Clerk, upon receipt of the results of the election from the Orange County Registrar of Voters, to certify the results to the governing body no later than the next regularly scheduled City Council meeting following presentation of the 28-day canvass of the returns. The Certificate of Registrar of Voters to Result of the Canvass (Exhibit A) reflects the full, true and correct Statement of Votes Cast, consolidated with the General Election held on November 5, 2024.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funds to carry out the November 5, 2024 election is budgeted in the City Clerk’s Fiscal Year 2024/25 budget.
