The City of Anaheim operates approximately 40 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles, including Freightliner M2 street sweepers, sewer jets, and utility vehicles.
These vehicles use the City owned facility within the Public Works Yard as the primary fueling station for CNG. The City’s fleet consumes approximately 10,000 therms per month, equivalent to 6,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline or 5,000 gallons of diesel.
The competitive bid was based on a fixed monthly cost to provide comprehensive preventative maintenance for two CNG compressors and related dispensing equipment.
The solicitation also requested hourly labor rates and a fixed markup percentage for materials to address usage-based maintenance recommendations and as-needed repairs.
A regular maintenance schedule is critical to ensure the station’s longevity, maintain Acceptance of Bid for CNG Compressor Repair and Maintenance Services December 17, 2024
environmental compliance, manage operational costs, and guarantee reliability and safety for its users.
The bid received interest from over a dozen companies, and a mandatory job walk was conducted. However, only two companies participated in the job walk and subsequently submitted bids.
The initial term of the agreement will be for a one-year period, with up to four one-year renewals. Pricing is fixed for the initial term and will be renegotiated annually for the renewal periods, subject to a cap based on the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Los Angeles, Long Beach, and Anaheim, California areas for the most recent available month period. Additionally, a 20% contingency is recommended to accommodate any unforeseen repair needs during the administration of this agreement.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Sufficient funds are available in the Public Works Department’s Fiscal Year 2024/25 budget. Funding for subsequent years will be subject to Council’s approval of budget appropriations.
