OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
DATE: MARCH 4, 2025
FROM: OFFICE OF THE CITY CLERK
SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO CERTAIN CITY BOARDS AND
COMMISSIONS, TERMS ENDING DECEMBER 31, 2028
(DISTRICTS 1 & 5)
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 16
GOVERNMENT CODE §84308 APPLIES: NO
RECOMMENDATION:
That the District 1 and 5 City Council Members, through the nomination and appointment process, make appointments to certain boards and commissions with terms ending December 31, 2028.
DISCUSSION:
City boards and commissions (“commissions”) perform a valuable service to the City by providing a means by which the City Council can obtain the advice, opinions, and recommendations of City residents and other members of the community. At the November 5, 2024 General Municipal Election, Council Members representing Districts 1, 4, and 5 were elected, thereby requiring appointments to occur with the new election cycle. Each appointment is directly nominated by and serves a term concurrent with the nominating elected official, which is ratified by an affirmative majority vote of the City Council.
At the January 14, 2025 Council meeting, District 1, 4 and 5 Council Members appointed members to several boards and commissions, with District 1 and 5 Council Members continuing certain appointments to be appointed at a later date.
District 1 Council Member Ryan Balius is prepared to make an appointment to the Public Utilities Board with a term ending December 31, 2028. The Public Utilities Board acts as an advisory body to the City Council relating to matters pertaining to the operation and conduct of the electric, water and other public utilities under the operation and/or management of the Public Utilities Department.
District 5 Council Member Kristen M. Maahs is prepared to make an appointment to the Senior Citizen Commission with a term ending December 31, 2028. The Senior Citizen Commission acts as an advisory body to the City Council and makes recommendations concerning the needs of senior citizens in the community.
