REQUESTED ACTION:
That the City Council, by Resolution, support Assembly Bill 91, the Middle Eastern and North African Inclusion Act.
DISCUSSION:
At the March 4, 2025 City Council meeting, Council Member Leon requested an agenda item to formally support Assembly Bill 91 (AB 91), the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Inclusion Act.
AB 91 would require that starting January 1, 2026, state agencies, boards, and commissions in California that collect demographic data on ancestry or ethnic origin must include separate categories for MENA groups. The proposed Resolution formally supports AB 91 and recognizes the MENA community’s contributions to the City of Anaheim.
If approved by City Council, the City will share the Resolution with our state representatives.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There is no budgetary impact.
