CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
City of Anaheim

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
DATE: MAY 13, 2025
FROM: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
SUBJECT: RESOLUTION DECLARING THE CITY OF ANAHEIM’S
INTENT TO USE THE PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1251 WEST

LINCOLN AVENUE FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW

FIRE STATION
ATTACHMENT (Y/N): YES ITEM # 30
GOVERNMENT CODE § 84308 APPLIES: NO
REQUESTED ACTION:

That the City Council, by Resolution, declare the City of Anaheim’s intent to use the property located at 1251 West Lincoln Avenue for future development of a new fire station.

DISCUSSION:

At the March 25, 2025, City Council meeting, Council Member Natalie Rubalcava requested a resolution to declare the property located at 1251 W. Lincoln Ave. for public use as a new location for a fire station.

The City of Anaheim (City) owns approximately a 0.68-acre remnant parcel of land located at 1251 W. Lincoln Ave. Anaheim, CA 92805. The city-owned parcel is part of a larger vacant property, with the remaining portion of the land owned by the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The City is in discussions with Caltrans and state legislators about utilizing the property for future development of a new fire station.

Central Anaheim currently has one fire station located at 500 E. Broadway. Although this is a prospective project in the early stages, acquiring the Caltrans property could allow for opportunities to expand services to densely populated neighborhoods in the City.

The subject property is a former Redevelopment Agency property, identified for future development by the Successor Agency, per the approved Long-Range Property Management Plan (Site No. 19, LRPMP). The change in the desired use will require compliance with all dissolution statutes.

Caltrans has expressed interest in transferring its portion of the property to the City if future development is deemed for public use. If approved, the proposed Resolution will certify the City’s plans to utilize the space for a new fire station, facilitating the process with Caltrans to transfer their portion of the property to the City. Any required future actions related to this project, including designation of the property for public use and Resolution Declaring the City of Anaheim’s Intent to Use the Property Located at 1251 West Lincoln Avenue for Future Development of a New Fire Station

development costs, will be brought forward to the City Council for their approval.

Strategic Plan Anaheim 2024-2034, Goal E – Support Public Safety includes a strategy to begin planning for construction of Fire Station 13. This action supports the implementation of this strategy.

If approved, the City will transmit the resolution to its state legislators and Caltrans for appropriate distribution.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:

There is no budgetary impact associated with this action.
